  • When you think of all the old books thrown out, literally, and the rubbish that replaced them, I start thinking of what I would do to get hold of some of these old books to scan them. But this is something long term.

I reprint below an email I received this date from Preserving Christian Publications. It was from them I purchased an unused set of 1942 Breviaries which I subsequently scanned.

    A Not-for-Profit Organization

    Dear Friends of PCP,

Twelve years ago we began a working relationship with another traditional Catholic publisher whom we though would help us market our reprinted books.  In good faith we literally handed him most of our reprint inventory and we additionally paid for the printing of several hundred thousand dollars’ worth of additional books

Unfortunately he never completely repaid us back for the initial inventory, nor the cost for our reprinting more books so that our joint effort would succeed.  To get into all the details of this financial tragedy, however, would be beyond the length of the present letter.

In the meantime we were counting on the sale of these books for revenues to reprint other books.  But those books are not forthcoming because of the other publisher’s unfair and dishonest business practices.

Recently we undertook our second reprinting of the famous and useful Gregorian Chant book called the Liber Brevior.  We were able to secure a loan of $10,000 for the down payment, but we have been unable to raise the remaining $10,000 to cover the final printing costs.  The books are ready to be shipped to us, but we must first pay the balance.

That is why we are turning to you, our benefactors and customers, to seek your help at this time.  Although we are a not-for-profit organization, we are reluctant to hound our customers for donations to underwrite our publishing effort.

But you will have to admit, this is a very unusual situation in which one publisher has literally “stolen” our inventory and forced us into a tremendous amount of debt, such that we have been caught short in being unable to pay for our mostly recently reprinted book.

Knowing that the economy is not very good, that people are hard pressed for work, and prices are going through the roof because of the corruption that is rampant within our society, it is with a heavy heart that we appeal to your generosity to help us get these books from the printer.

Any financial help or donation would be appreciated at this time: $5, $10, $25 or more.

Thank you in advance for your concern and thoughtfulness in this time of the Easter Season.

                                                                                             Sincerely in Christ,
