  • A Traditional Catholic family from the Wausau Wisconsin area was enroute to the hospital early Friday morning, April 17, 2015 for the mother to deliver their eighth child. A car approaching theirs struck a deer. The deer was thrown into the windshield of the family's vehicle, killing he father. All seven children and the mother were admitted to the ER and the mother delivered her baby. The wife and children will survive.

The family is in dire financial need as a result.

A GoFundMe account has been established for the family. Please give if you can, and please share and spread the word. A news report of the incident is linked on the GoFundMee account webpage.

Thank you and God Bless You.

  • I want to help.  Is this site safe?

  • Yes.  Please explain what gofundme is.  What cut do they get?  Do I use a credit card?  Does the family really get the cash?  This is probably old hat for a lot of you, but I really don't know what this thing is.

I'm also skeptical because I did go to the site and saw Fr. Zuldorf's name prominently displayed.

  • On a side note, unrelated to the noble fund raiser, every Traditional Catholic man with a wife to support and children to raise really SHOULD have LIFE INSURANCE !

As another side note: And an estate plan, including a will or trust, guardianship set up for children in case both parents died, and also a Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care, in case instead of killed, you are incapacitated, and can no longer make decisions.

I know people are busy, and don't like to think of such things.  But it's not unthinkable that both parents could be killed in such an accident.  Who would raise your children, if you do not have guardianship set up?  Do you really want the courts to decide that?  And don't assume that you don't need a will, as if it is a given that the spouse or children will inherit everything.  These things are so much more important that young-ish people think.

Everyone with children should have guardianship set up in case of the death of both parents.

  • Over $121,000 raised for this family in 3 days. What a display of traditional Catholic charity.

Yes this is real. The particular drive was started by family friends. I'm not going to spoon feed anybody too lazy to go to the GoFundMe website to see how it works, and what the costs are. Nothing is free, and nothing else is a better value.

  • All the comments about insurance and other financial and estate planning are spot on. I spent 20 years in that field before retiring. Unfortunately this woman's husband couldn't, wouldn't, or didn't take care of this in time. The bad news is that they need charity. The good news is they are traditional Catholics, and, hopefully, so are we.

  • Go Fund Me is a legit site for fundraising, last time I checked they keep 8% of the proceeds.  Better to establish a local bank account and mail the funds directly.  I think 8% is HUGE, if it was 1-3% I wouldn't mind.

I doubt that name calling will be productive.

I for one think Go Fund Me is a rip-off.  Already that family will not be receiving over 8K of the donations made to them.

  • The people who set the site up believed, and it apparently is working out that way, that more NET funds would be made available this way than by going the local bank account way, where the broadcasting of the need is relatively impaired.

I stand by my comment about those who lack the initiative to jump on their computer and find out the answers to their questions as being lazy. Pointing out an obvious fault is not name calling. It is legitimate Catholic admonishment, which the world needs more of.

Another idea for those who would rather sit back and criticize this effort for its costs and retard charity: send money directly to the family. But that also requires some initiative that might be too much for some who lurk here.

For me, my money is where my mouth is.
