  • Does anybody have a copy of the 1969 GIRM? I have read tons of excerpts in Fr. Cekada's book, and I have GOT to see this doozey for myself.

  • It is in the front of any NO Sacramentary.  I expect it is available online with a little looking.

  • I was hoping to see a response for this because I too have wanted to read the original General Instructions.

I don't think this Instruction can be correctly called the 1960 GIRM.  This would, rather, be the original General Instructions of the Roman Missal published for the Novus Ordo.  I have read numerous references to it but have never seen the instructions themselves.  Of course, if one had a copy of the "Sacramentary" published for the Novus Ordo back in 1969 or 1970, it would be printed in the front of that book.  The reports are that the instructions were so theologically flawed (including outright heresy) that the instructions were recalled and a revision was introduced in just a matter of months.  The revision was a typical Conciliar text that can be interpretted in many ways so as to please both conservatives and liberals.  The original version was blatantly liberal and could not even be stretched by the wildest imagination to be consistent with Catholicism according to Father Cekada and others I've read.

I've never seen those original instructions myself though references to them are too varied and numerous to doubt that they existed.

I'l like to see these original instructions (in English) myself for purely academic reason but it does not appear they've ever been published on the internet having been recalled and replaced long before the internet was conceived.

Ah, my mistake.  I should have read your post more carefully.

  • I own a book called "Docuмents on the Liturgy 1963-1979 that contains the 1975 edition with notes that show all of the changes. I'll try and find some time to add it to CatholicLiturgy.com. No promises on a time frame.

NO! Paul VI Made changes to both the french and italian translations in his own handwriting. HE PUSHED IT THROUGH! He was NOT ignorant.

I am confused are you saying he made it worse or that he fixed it? Forgive my ignorance.

Paul 6 fully approved the original GIRM.  Only after it was released and priests and theologians throughout the world (most of whom had not yet been completely perverted by 1969, many of whom used the Novus Ordo out of a misplaced sense of obedience) absolutely rejected it as it contained, not just veiled heresy, but outright heresy.  Only then was the docuмent revised to veil the heretical beliefs of its authors and contributors in order to make it palatable.

It was not revised at the behest of Paul 6, but because Paul 6 feared the priests of the Catholic Church would reject his Novus Ordo en masse if he did not.  At least, that is the way I read the definite historical events.  I really don't have an insight into what Paul 6 was thinking at the time.

  • He approved it and made revisions to the french and italian versions before its publication. HE pushed it through.
