I have received several requests over the past several months to ban various subjects on CathInfo.
Basically I'm being asked to censor various content.
Such topics to be censored include: flat earth, Feeneyism, sedevacantism, and others.
CathInfo was started in 2006 when Fisheaters banned discussion of A) any kind of conspiracy/shadow organization, and B) sedevacantism.
I am not a sedevacantist myself, but I believe it wasn't right to outright ban various topics that (obviously) some Catholics wanted to discuss. What else is a discussion forum good for? It's supposed to be a place for people to talk about anything and everything they care about, like a coffee and donuts hall.
Does your parish hall tell you what you can't talk about? You can't talk about cօռspιʀαcιҽs? Other Mass centers? Sedevacantism? Baptism of desire? The Jєωs? Economics? Politics? Cryptocurrency?
If you start banning various topics, in a quest to please various people who are annoyed, then where does it end?
I'd rather not start down that road. So my conclusion is: You can talk about anything DECENT for a Catholic.
The only thing you can't do: deny/mock the Faith, proselytize for other religions, or otherwise violate the Ten Commandments. Free speech (per se) is not what this is about, because Free Speech (per se) is not Catholic. It's more like "what we SHOULD be free to discuss as free human beings, living in a non-dystopian, non-totalitarian world".
If you don't want to hear about certain topic(s), just skim past those topics. There are plenty of others once you ignore those!
Here's the thing: CathInfo goes through "cycles" of activity on various topics. Sometimes, it seems like all Resistance news, all the time. Other times it's all Pfeifferville, all the time. Other times it's all Feeneyism, all the time. Or all Flat Earth, all the time.
But do you see that those descriptions are all mutually exclusive? CathInfo isn't all _____ all the time. It's a huge variety, which varies by the day, by the week, by the month, and by the year. If there are topics that don't interest you, or that you are weary of, then by all means don't click on them.
Or come back a few days later -- I'm sure a new topic will be "dominating" the forum by that point.
But in the end, CathInfo will remain a place where Catholics are free to discuss ANYTHING legitimate for a Catholic to discuss -- that is, anything that can be discussed without sin.
