<<<Rogation Days, like their distant cousins the Ember Days, are days set aside to observe a change in the seasons. Rogation Days are tied to the spring planting. There are four Rogation Days: the Major Rogation, which falls on April 25, and three Minor Rogations, which are held on the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday immediately before Ascension Thursday.

As the Catholic Encyclopedia notes, Rogation Days are "Days of prayer, and fasting, instituted by the Church to appease God's anger at man's transgressions, to ask protection in calamities, and to obtain a good and bountiful harvest.>>>

I love rogation day processions. Singing the Litany of the Saints is one of the best ceremonies on earth.

I feel the same way, in fact, I have often thought, not sure if it is proper however, that I would love to hear the Litany of the Saints at my funeral.

My only draw back would be, I wouldn't want anyone to think that I felt I was one. Although I would love to skip Purgatory. Which is why I pray often the prayer for daily neglects.

So if one has been meaning to plant a few herbs and vegetables, but so far has been too lazy, today would be the right day to get off one's rear and do it?

It doesn't say anything in the Traditio Calendar about this, and it's not in the CMRI bulletin where fasts are listed.

Is it abrogated but people can do it if they want to, that sort of thing?

My reference book says:
Rogation days are days of special prayer for a good and bountiful harvest, for protection in times of calamity, for penance for sins. Liturgical requirements include the recitation of the Litany of the Saints, a procession, and the celebration of the Mass of Rogation. Fasting is not required

Took some pictures during the procession this morning, if any came out decent I will publish here shortly.

Good pics. I am now living right by church -- but thought Mass was tomorrow and not today. :sad: I wonder if Fr. Dominic has a procession?

When I lived there he would have a procession through the park or around the block sometime, but that might have changed, if I remember I think he needs a permit now.
