EXPECT MINOR OUTAGE(S)
I will try to limit the outage(s) as much as possible, but some downtime is inevitable.
I've written up a step-by-step plan for the server switchover, but there are portions of it which MUST take place while the site is down.
I have chosen Sunday morning because the greatest number of CathInfo members will be away from the site. (American members at least).
There is no time, day or night, when NO ONE is online. CathInfo is too popular a forum for that. The sun never sets on the English-speaking world.
I have worked to reduce downtime as much as possible. It shouldn't be much.
I can see how the site behaves on the new server, and let's just say I don't see any problems! So now it's time for the big switchover!
I know this has taken a while, so I thank you for your patience!
P.S. I don't know EXACTLY what time the site will be down. I do know that no posts will be lost (that's why the site must be disabled during the transfer process!)
If you try to visit CathInfo Sunday morning and it's not there, just know that it's an expected outage.
P.P.S. There will be no "8-48 hour propagation" like when you switch IP addresses, and the change has to percolate to all corners of the Internet. No, the traffic is already going to my house and that's where it needs to go. I'll just be directing it to a NEW server machine on the premises. So the switchover will be one-and-done for all readers and members of the forum.
