  • Just for interest: Brophy HS in Phoenix, in 1990 was known to have one-third muslim students.  They were not there for conversion.

Daily mass for students?  That might be offensive for those muslims?

I have never heard of a single novus ordo school that had current mandatory daily mess attendance. They must be an extreme outlier that I am sure that Frankie the heretic will stop as he is "updating" those few cloisters left in the spirit of Vatican 2.

His update of the contemplative sisters would not have any effect on these sisters as they are an active community.

Most local diocesan high schools are leaps and bounds ahead of the public high schools, academically speaking, so they were probably there for that.

I found that to be the case with the diocesan schools I attended.  Parents were sending their children there for academics and/or sports, not for religious formation.

The high school I went to is really an academic powerhouse.  It was located in a bad area, tuition was about 5k a year.  They moved to a "less bad" area, and tuition went to 7k a year.  Now, since nobody cares about Catholic education, or can't afford it, they moved to the area with the highest concentration of wealth in the state.

Now, tuition is over 11k a year (tuition only), and the racial demographic has changed completely.  A good number of the students are Asian and Indian (non-Catholic) and Muslim, because that's who are getting the high paying jobs.

When I was there, parents did sacrifice to send their children there.  We had a variety of students coming from a variety of backgrounds.  At 5k a year, it was possible to do that.  At 11k a year, it is now only the wealthy that are able to send their children there, and it is not at all for Catholic education, it is only for academics.

I don't see a bunch of goat-humpers being that interested in high academics.  I expect it is to expose Catholic students to them, their culture, and eventually convert.  Also, I expect the concept of keep your friends close and your enemies closer comes more naturally to the Mohammadeans than the Catholics.

Right, and thanks to the sweeping changes in our church, religious sisters starting ripping off their habits, moving out of convents, living in apartments, and then. . . TaaaaDaaaaaah!!!! No more religious!  (I'm sure that wasn't new news to anyone on this forum, but nonetheless)

It would be nice if there were still good schools out there filled with solid religious brothers and sisters, teaching the children the faith free of charge.  Sigh!

That was possible when religious sisters were the teachers, and the parish didn't have to pay them a salary.  Now, unfortunately, the parishes have to pay teachers, and a special collection certainly isn't enough to cover that.

It's interesting, the NO schools I've been reading about online have a preferential policy in admitting new students.  First priority goes to children who are members of the parish, then to children who are members of another Catholic (NO) parish.  Non-Catholics are only admitted if there is still room after those with priority have been given a place.

It's amazing to me how different things are from place to place.

  • I don't believe in MIXED indifference in the classroom of those who claim to be of one faith, which we know they are not.  Just causes for more confusion.

And when you get rid of religious poverty normal people cannot afford the cost of the tuition.

You are right about that one.  That is the reality of today.
