  • John 20:21-23
21 He said therefore to them again: Peace be to you. As the Father hath sent me, I also send you. 22 When he had said this, he breathed on them; and he said to them: Receive ye the Holy Ghost. 23 Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.
    Pray for me, always.

  • As Matthew once said so eloquently, "The moon is always full at CathInfo."

Now we have a sedevacantist named after an archangel turned Protestant.  Talk about the moon being full -- this is lycanthropy!

Looking forward to the next inexplicable mutation of our inexplicable times.

Readers: Please IGNORE all my postings here. I was a recent convert and fell into errors, even heresy for which hopefully my ignorance excuses. These include rejecting the "rhythm method," rejecting the idea of "implicit faith," and being brieflfy quasi-Jansenist. I also posted occasions of sins and links to occasions of sin, not understanding the concept much at the time, so do not follow my links.

Yes, these word are addressed only to the apostles not to all of the believers.

As matthew said, sedes beggin by being very dogmatic and strict about every iota of the faith, willing to sacrifice everything for it, they end in questioning and doubting everything and wavering in their faith.

Thank you, Caraffa. I believe you will be a welcome addition to this forum.

Ilike how the Catholic Church capitalized on this and made it sin only forgiven if you confess before a priest. Even though the apostles were never priest. Blaa..good old boy club in action again I see.

I am still Catholic just that many of the dogam we Catholics take for granted are not founded on the truth of the Bible...but on MAN'S ideas and wants of the time.

THEY WERE MADE BISHPS BY JESUS! AND EVERY BISHOP IS THEIR SUCCESSOR!
IF you deny the sacred and apostolic Tradition, you are a sola scriptura = protestant!

  • It Is in the Tradition and the bible testifies to the Tradition.
About the fact that some of apostles were married, it makes no hinderance, since they left all to follow our Lord.

Uriel I understand your issue with confession... You feel sad because of your sins and cannot trust any priest. Don't allow the devil to take disadvantage of this... don't allow.

  • This sums it up, Uriel:

    Quote
Since it is God who has been offended, God has the right to lay down the conditions of forgiveness. You cannot insist that God must forgive you on your own conditions.

As Matthew also said - in the forum rules, in fact - such remarks belong in the Crisis folder.
"Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is all man."

The whole idea of sin ONLY forgiven by a priest is one such mistake.

Actually, Holy Church - which has never been, and can never be, wrong about dogma - teaches about something called perfect contrition.  As you are clearly not clear-headed about many other matters of import, I will not bother to explain it at this time.

Your comments in this thread do little to support this claim.

Nothing in the Bible mentioning Bishops.

Uh oh! Sola Scriptura = Protestant!

Catholics should never reject a teaching because there is (as far as they can tell) "nothing in the Bible" about it.

  • This thread is so off-base, as are the numerous weird anti SSPX threads.

You are going way above your station in life.

Take a minute and reflect before writing nonsense about the Sacrament of Confession.

We Catholics go by Tradition.  The thousands of sects do the same auto-interpretation of the Holy Bible as we see in the OP.  We have Seven Sacraments.

  • Uriel, the second vatican council didn't have the necessary conditions of infalibility. It was a pastoral council as it's founders said. It didn't define any dogma of faith. So even if they were real popes, they could not be infallible in that matter.

For a pope to be infallible: 1- He must speak ex catherda
                                           2-address the whole church
                                           3-about matters of Faith and
                                              morailty
                                           4-define what the church always
                                             believed
                                            5-use the words of
                                              infalibility.
When they don't have these conditions they are not infallible.

For the spirit is not promised to Peter to compose new dogmas, but to declar what was always believed by the church.

So the fact that many popes (including St. Peter)erred in non-infallible matters, doesn't mean that the church isn't infallible.
