Butter is certainly better for you than margarine or any other vegetable-oil product (shortening, soybean oil, etc).
Stick to things that have been around for centuries -- milk, butter, lard, olive oil, cheese, eggs, meat, vegetables, fruits.
That does NOT include lots of white sugar, splenda, aspartame, margarine, etc. But if you must have something sweet, stick to honey, molasses, brown sugar, or maybe white sugar. At least they aren't neuro-toxins like Aspartame and Splenda.
If God made it, eat it. If man made it, throw it out.
