  • Why is it unbiblical, exactly? I get the premise there is only one coming and we are judged on the last day, but what about the workers in the field? and one is taken up?

    just curious...

  • If you read St. Alphonsus and if you reference the biblical commentaries of Fr. Haydock, St. Thomas, and Cornelius a Lapide, you'll find that the verse in which one worker is taken and the other left behind refers to the mystery of predestination - that is, wherein among a group of seemingly similar people, certain souls are more favored by God through His mysterious designs. Ultimately, resulting in the salvation of one and the loss of grace in the other, though they both seem the same.

It is unbiblical because it has no links to the teachings of the Apostles. The modern notion of a "Rapture" was invented in the 19th century. If you look up the word "rapture" in Samuel Johnson's dictionary there is no mention of this supposed future event.

Aside from that, it makes absolutely no sense.

  • Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,
Let it be what God has planned, His new Eden where You reign.

The "rapture" is one of the doctrines of Dispensationalism, which was invented by John Nelson Darby in the 1830s. All Catholics really need to know about this belief is that the Church, according to Dispensationalism, is a "stop-gap measure" or "temporary interlude in the progress of Israel's prophesied history" -- because Christ failed to establish his earthly Kingdom (which was -- supposedly -- his original intention). The Kingdom and the Church are separate entities for Dispensationalists. All the Old Testament prophecies, according to them, do not apply to the Church, but rather they belong to a future Jєωιѕн worldly kingdom.
