New ‘Passion of the Christ’ sequel will be ‘biggest film in history’: Jim Caviezel
Jim Caviezel , Mel Gibson , Passion Of The Christ
January 30, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) –  Actor Jim Caviezel, world-famous for his portrayal of Jesus in the blockbuster 2004 movie The Passion of the Christ, has confirmed that he is joining forces with director Mel Gibson to reprise his role in a sequel about the Resurrection, now on the drawing board.
“There are things that I cannot say that will shock the audience," said the actor in a USA Today interview.  “It's great. Stay tuned.”
“The Resurrection. Big subject. Oh, my God,” said Director Mel Gibson in a 2016 interview.  “We’re trying to craft this in a way that’s cinematically compelling and enlightening so that it shines new light, if possible, without creating some weird thing.”
The Academy Award-winning director who also co-wrote and produced The Passion of the Christ is still conceptualizing how the story will be told on the big screen.
“I won’t tell you how he’s going to go about it,” Caviezel told USA Today. “But I’ll tell you this much, the film he’s going to do is going to be the biggest film in history. It’s that good.”
The Passion of the Christ brought to life the last twelve hours of the life of Jesus Christ in a powerful, graphic way that had never before been achieved.  Despite Hollywood’s disdain for movies about Christianity, audiences flocked to theatres to see it, making it one of the most successful, highest grossing films in history.
Caviezel, who besides being an acclaimed actor, is a man of faith who publicly challenges his fellow Catholics to live their faith out loud in this darkening world.
Earlier this month, the actor spoke before a huge crowd of college students in Chicago at the SLS18 (Student Leadership Summit 2018) conference sponsored by The Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS).
“Set yourselves apart from this corrupt generation,” the actor challenged those in attendance. “Be saints. You weren’t made to fit in. You were born to stand out.”
“We must shake off this indifference, this destructive tolerance of evil. But only our faith and the wisdom of Christ can save us,” he said. “But it requires warriors, ready to risk their reputations, their names, even our very lives, to stand for the truth.”
“By God, we must live,” Caviezel concluded, “and with the Holy Spirit as your shield and Christ as your sword, may you join St. Michael and all the angels in sending Lucifer and his henchmen straight right back to Hell where they belong!”
"Let God arise, and let His enemies be scattered: and them that hate Him flee from before His Holy Face"  Psalm 67:2[/b]

  • Heard that Mel Gibson introduced Jim Caviezel to the Latin Mass.  Is this true?  How "Catholic" is he?

  • I struggle to take Mel Gibson seriously anymore. It was one thing when he was married and raising a family while "fighting his demons". It was easier to give the benefit of the doubt. But the divorce, the string of girlfriends since ... He's an old man now, shouldn't wisdom be kicking in soon? Instead it's gotten gross and pernicious and makes it hard to trust anything coming from his soul.

    Glad you asked.

I thought something was "off" after watching the attached Caviezel interview last year.

He appears to be hitting the protestant circuit.  His message is interesting, but flawed.

Jim was reported to have been blackballed by the Hollywood tribe.
He's now conspicuously downplaying the Catholic Church and the role of the Blessed Virgin in our salvation.

Perhaps his reasoning is not to offend the Jєωs or his protestant audiences, but that's always been a cheap ticket to Hell.

IMHO, the traditional Catholic remnant should scrutinize the Passion sequel and be quick to write constructive criticisms, if the writers or producers have modified Holy Scriptures or Church Doctrines.

Sanctity of life will be held in derision even by those who outwardly profess it, for in those days Our Lord Jesus Christ will send them not a true Pastor but a destroyer."  St. Francis of Assisi

I have similar thoughts.  He's certainly not the poster boy for Traditional Catholicism...unfortunately.

Yes, I remember thinking this way too at the time.  He doesn't sound Catholic.

  • I would be wondering about the present state of Mel Gibson, as he is the one making the movie. As Alec Obi Wan Guinness would say, we must be cautious.

  • I agree with you, Wallflower!  Mel Gibson is on the fast way to hell, if does not straighten up his act!  I would have no problem not seeing his movie.

  • You know the Jєωs' noses are twitching laterally and their pupils are dilating as they keep a close eye on the sequel's developments.

  • From what I know, Caviziel is charismatic leaning, and a Medjugorje supporter. I have a friend who was close to Fr Stephen Sommerville who said Mass on set daily and commented on how surreal it was giving Communion to Caviziel who was in costume already at Mass. So he at least attended the True Mass on set.

As for Mel Gibson, even though he a traditionalist (not sure where he stands in regards to his fathers opinions), but his personal life ... well ...

  • Hype.
Didn't see the first one. I like the original version as told by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

  • Well Mel’s certainly not in it for the money. No, he lives a modest millionaire’s life with his 20-something year old girlfriend and second child from an adulterous union..but who’s paying attention to that dirty gossip anyways?

Personally, I don’t care how realistic his movies are I wouldn’t give him a dime of my money to contribute to his filthy Hollyweird lifestyle. We know who he really works for..who runs Hollywood again?
It would be crazy to think he’s somehow an independent even though he’s completely sunk in that vile Celebrity culture.

And it makes it even worse that he’s dragging the name ‘Catholic’ through the mud with his past association with The Church. Catholics should be outraged and calling him out and then boycotting any movie of his, especially those attempting to portray anything remotely related to The Life of Christ!

Prayer and Meditation on The Life of Christ! Mary of Agreda City of God is fantastic!

  • If Mel wants to make another movie about religion, even considering his personal faults, it'll be better than ANY protestant movie could hope to be.  I'll watch it in a heartbeat.  The first 'passion' movie was excellent.  I can't say enough good things about it.  I've never watched a movie where you are 'sucked in' in less than 5 minutes.  Epic music and acting.  Very catholic.

I watched that protestant movie 'Risen' a few years ago.  Some parts were very good (mostly the historical/social background), but the lows were very low - the Apostles were characterized as almost effeminate and some of the situations were just so protestant as to make me want to puke.

Jim Caviziel is novus ordo, sure.  Does that mean we should burn him at the stake?  Doesn't mean that God can't use him to make good movies, or that maybe (just maybe!) he'll convert!  Gosh, is that even possible?  Based on some of the bitter comments on this thread, i'd think some of you believe conversion doesn't happen anymore.

And i'll pray that Mel would convert by making this new movie.  Surely he's had more than his fair share of attacks from the Devil/joos because of his first movie and all the good it produced.  If he was as spiritually depraved as some think, he wouldn't care at all about a spiritual movie.  All of our spiritual lives are contradictory and complex.  As St Paul said in Romans 7:   For I do not that good which I will; but the evil which I hate, that I do.
