Title: The name Mary
Post by: klasG4e on June 14, 2018, 10:43:46 AM
A very fascinating and informative website!  Here is its link for the name Mary.  One can see its sad and rapid decline in our neo-pagan society: https://www.behindthename.com/name/mary (https://www.behindthename.com/name/mary)

What does the "its" refer to here?  I don't understand your comment.
I have understood for a long time (can't remember when I heard) that the hebrew name 'Miriam" means bitter.

Thanks for the explanation - that makes sense.

I just did a search for most popular girls names 2017 and the first on the list was Sophia, which is not without religious meaning, though most parents probably would not know. Many parents name babies because "they liked the name".

Interesting though that down lower on the list of popular girls names at #32 comes Hannah, at #42 Anna and at #50 Grace. All three names derive from Anne, who is the mother of the Mother of God.
