  • The Ignore Button got off to a bad start here on CathInfo.

Raoul76 stated publicly that he decided to not use it -- as if no one should use it. WRONG! Maybe he can handle reading all the posts/posters on here, but  he misses the point entirely.

CathInfo has too varied a membership for the average Catholic to get along with everyone. No one wants to subject themselves to temptations to anger, etc. So what do we end up with? A bunch of insignificant, obscure, fragmented message boards, each for a different age group, traditional group, position on the Church crisis, view of the world, etc.?

Or, how about this idea --

We all come together on one board -- let's call it "CathInfo" -- and have an ignore function, so the handful of people whose VIEWS you can't stand can be ignored. Then you can enjoy the companionship, news, advice, and discussions of the rest of the board -- all 99.9% of it!

If not, we'd be throwing out the baby (99.9%) with the bathwater (0.1% -- the posts by Mr. X)!

In summary, abstaining from the Ignore feature is NOT a mandatory act of virtue that everyone here must practice. It is perfectly acceptable to use the function, that's why I created it! And no one can criticize you for using it. It's a helpful tool to make this board more enjoyable for everyone.

  • The "Ignore" function does not stop repetitious hijackings by the same small group of anti-catholic posters who have made it very clear that their purpose is to disrupt, not discuss.

  • I believe this forum would be much better if they banned out and out sedes. Sedes are protestants and shouldn't be allowed on a Catholic forum.

And the sedes would say the same thing about you, that it's Protestant to claim that Benedict XVI is pope but then ignore him for all intents and purposes, and be out of communion with him.  And Novus Ordo neo-Catholics would say that about all Traditional Catholics. We have many formal Catholics on all sides:  in the Novus Ordo, among SSPX-types, among sedevacantists.  We are currently materially scattered due to the diabolical confusion regarding the Church.  We are living the prophetic words of Pope Leo XIII in the original St. Michael prayer, that the shepherd would be struck and the sheep scattered.  We are living the prophetic words of Our Lady of LaSalette, that the Church would be in eclipse.  When the Shepherd comes out of hiding and reveals Himself once again, His sheep will know His voice, come running, and reunite.  And I'm sure there are many now on all sides who will be united under the True Shepherd, and that's the sign of a formal Catholic.  And, sadly, there are many who will not.  Our Lord in all this is separating the chaff and the wheat.  Our Lord is weeding His Church.

I've never met anyone I could consider a formal heretic among Traditional Catholics.  I don't see Traditional Catholics denying the dogmas of the Church, but only arguing about interpretations of various things.  And for most of us, God does not require us to be theological experts in order to be saved.

Let us please try to have a certain amount of charity towards even those with whom we disagree.  Let us stop the angry bitter condescending vitriolic comments.  Those are signs of someone trying to justify HIMSELF.  Truth needs no defense.  Truth is true regardless of whether anyone believes in it or not.  Consequently, our only real motive of trying to convince someone of the truth should be charity.

I myself try to keep an open mind.  If someone makes an argument, I try to consider honestly whether or not he's making some kind of valid point.  I find that even if I don't agree with EVERYTHING he's saying, there's very often a kernel of truth there that I missed that might force me to rethink my position and be more nuanced about something I believe to be true.  I learn from those who argue against my position.

    Matthew has the right approach.

  • ladislaus, the one problem with your point about sedes is that this forum does not bear the title "Former Catholics".  I think we can distinguish between sincere sedes who are trying to rescue the Church even if we disagree with their method, and those anti-catholics who have seized upon the sede position as a club with which to bludgeon Traditional Catholics and prevent us from having any kind of fellowship at all.

Some have criticized my looking to F-E as caving in to the N-O, because fisheaters is less willing to challenge the hirerarchy, and I agree. Going there is a choice that is a reaction to the overbearing pseudo-sedes here.  Most of my friends are here, but their posts get lost among the strings of rude and obnoxious challenges to debates, which is the primary weapon of all anti-Catholic Protestants who deny the Saving Grace of the Sacraments.

I don't agree with it.  Someone has been ignoring me now for weeks, and I have said nothing to warrant that.  If you are going to ignore someone, then you should, IMHO, be at least public about it.

That wasn't a prophecy, it was describing a contemporary situation: http://www.traditionalmass.org/blog/2007/11/12/the-st-michael-prayer-a-falsified-text/

  •   Lurkers cannot ignore, but they can be SCANDALIZED by reading bad posts.
Perhaps a good willed non-trad or a non-catholic is seeing us. We must not disappoint him.

  • I use a manual ignore button that I selectively employ for posts that are not of interest to me -- the scroll bar on my browser.

You can't ignore Matthew for the same reason that he can't ignore you ... someone has to be "the management."

You'd miss announcements and things of that sort. And, in extreme situations, he'd have no way to warn someone that he's about to ban them.

I agree with Ladislaus ... I can easily scroll past that which I don't want to read.
