Most Baby Boomies were in their early childhood to early teens in 1960. The original degradations started happening within the WWII generation ahead of them, not that the BB's tried to stop it. Most of them decided to leave the Church completely, not deform the system from within.
I haven't seen that much of a groundswell among the x, y, zers to change anything, or bring the NewChurch back to dry land.
The idea of the profligacy of the "American Church" is just plain silly. Sillybecks, Ratzinger, Wotyla--are all Europeans.
Some bishops are older and have been around for a very long time. But there is growing evidence that the younger men are the more mature Christians.
And what would that evidence be?
There have always been a lack of grownups. Different day, same situation.
