  • I heard via Friar Alessandro that the past two days have seen the Feast of Indulgence. Alessandro offered a brief explanation of what the feast actually is in this little video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0VgOtiis3s&feature=youtu.be

I would love to know more and wondered if anyone had ever made the pilgrimage to Assisi to obtain the Porciuncula Indulgence? It's something I am considering for next year...

  • I would be highly suspect. He has no explanation or source. Sounds very Novus Ordo.

  • I don't know what Friar Alessandro has been saying, but consult the following thread for information regarding the Portiuncula Indulgence:

Please ignore all that I have written regarding sedevacantism.

Friar Alessandro has a thick accent (Italian?) but if you listen carefully you can
catch all his words. Nonetheless, his explanation makes it sound like St. Francis
of Assisi effectively preached a general absolution for this feast day. He uses
the words "indulgence" and "forgiveness of sin" practically without distinction,
saying that it's hard to explain.

My question is, why would someone want to take the name of a notorious murderer
as a religious name? Anyone familiar with the story of St. Maria Goretti knows that
the man who killed her by stabbing her repeatedly with a knife, was none other
than Alessandro Serenelli. It is true, that he was later the recipient of enormous
grace by way of his conversion, release from prison and the vast honor of being
given a seat immediately next to Maria's mother at her own daughter's canonization
at the Vatican. Still, I would not be at ease with choosing his name as my own to live
the rest of my life with that. It just seems a bit weird and even creepy. I am
reminded of the papal name of John. For hundreds of years, since John XXII, the
name was thought to be off limits for a Pope, until along came John XXIII, and we
all know the rest of that story!
