I believe it was real. Forget the movie - the audio (parts of which are in the youtube clip above) sounds too real. Also note how similar it is to the film the Exorcist - if you are thinking that the girl might have been mimicking that, she was showing clear signs of possession in the same year (but before) the movie came out. The Exorcist is also based on a true life exorcism of a young American boy many years earlier.

You are definitely right about Satan possessing the body - he can never touch the soul while you are alive. Now, it is also worth noting that it is not possible to "sell your soul" to the devil - the devil will never own your soul - but if you go to hell, he can certainly torment it.

Jacafamala, forgive me, my intent was not to state I disbelieve the possession, but that the name of the girl was not Emily Rose, but Annelise Michelle. I believe that she was possessed as well, but that the spin Hollywood put on the story was malarkey.

I didn't read the Wikipedia article, rather I just linked to the first Google hit that had the correct name. The Dimonds actually have an audio on her that is worth listening to.

Demon possession? Definitely real! Special effects in the movie? Ultra-cool and Super-scary! Premise of the story? Total faith destoyer. My advice: avoid like the plauge and watch "Boys Town" instead!
