Oh, one other thing that has to be said about that movie:  if you've ever wanted to see a world where everyone traded in their black and grey clothes for browns, tans, creams and olives, you'll luv this film!

Quote from: Jamie

You are definitely right about Satan possessing the body - he can never touch the soul while you are alive.  Now, it is also worth noting that it is not possible to "sell your soul" to the devil - the devil will never own your soul - but if you go to hell, he can certainly torment it.

Actually you can. People do it all the time.

Selling your soul to the devil is knowingly and willingly giving him the rights and dominion over your soul in exchange for something.

If being in a state of mortal sin is (in a sense) possession of the soul, then how much more so is it for a person who formally gives themselves to the devil?

If your soul is in such a state then the devil does indeed "own" you until you make a sincere confession.
