  • How much authority, if any, does the Didache have?  Obviously, it is not part of Sacred Scripture, but can it be treated with the same authority as, for example, a letter written by St. Augustine or another Early Church Father?  Or should it be relegated to the same fate as the so-called "Gnostic Gospels"?

  • I've read it, Timothy. It's very short.

It is reverently referenced by authentic Catholic scholars.

It is devoutly held to be the work of the Apostles (which of them, I do not recall) prepared as a vademecuм for the early clergy.

As to its ranking, I would defer to those who do know.

It can be treated with the same authority as a letter written by St Augustine.

    Option A.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir

  • I've read the Didache also and it's a beautiful writing.  I was taught it's on par with the writings of Clement, Ignatius and Polycarp which are all authoritative and part of the Holy Canon of the Church.  You trust in these writings the same as Holy Scripture (but they are not part of Holy Scripture - they are part of Holy Tradition).
Holy Tradition is on the same level (authoritative and inspired by the Holy Ghost) as Holy Scripture.
