  • Isiolo, Kenya (CNN) -- "Josephine" is 12 years old and several months pregnant.
She's a member of the Samburu tribe, living in a small village in a remote part of Isiolo in Kenya's Eastern Province. The pre-teen, whose identity is being protected, claims she had sex with a relative -- a rape sanctioned by the Samburu, through a practice called "beading."
Intricate beaded necklaces are a symbol of the Kenyan nation. But to young Samburu girls, the necklaces are a symbol not of national pride, but something much darker, that can lead to rape, unwanted pregnancies -- and even the deaths of newborns, according to activist Josephine Kulea and the Samburu tribe itself.
In "beading," a close family relative will approach a girl's parents with red Samburu beads and place the necklace around the girl's neck.
"Effectively he has booked her," says Kulea, a member of the Samburu herself. "It is like a (temporary) engagement, and he can then have sex with her." Girls are also "beaded" as an early marriage promise by non-relatives.
Some girls who are "beaded" are no more than 6 years old. They are the focus of Kulea's rescue mission, a trip to Isiolo she's been planning for weeks.
Samburu culture dictates that girls be engaged to a relative, she says, and they are allowed to have sex with him. But "they are not allowed to get pregnant and there is no preventative measures," she says. "At the end of the day, most girls get pregnant ... and these (infants) end up dying or being killed or being given away."
When they reach adulthood, Samburu girls will marry outside of their village, but taboo dictates the girls will never be able to marry if they keep their babies resulting from beading.
Some girls, she says, undergo a crude abortion before their pregnancy advances. Others hide their condition until it is too late for that. "They let them give birth, but only to kill these babies," Kulea says.
If the girls are lucky, their babies are given away to strangers. "Most of these girls are traumatized," Kulea says, and some get infections from the crude abortions.
Philip Lemantile, the father of 14-year-old Nasuto, says beading is aimed at stopping promiscuity among young girls.
"This is our culture," he says. "It is part of us. And we have been practicing it, and we accept that these girls should be beaded, and sometimes the girls just get pregnant."
Kulea calls that a bad cultural practice.
"For any change that comes by, we have to have a start," she says. "And this is the start."
But the start is traumatic for the Samburu, as the girls are taken away from their families and put in a shelter. Their babies are placed in orphanages.
Still, Kulea says, it's better than staying.
"I just felt that it is wrong," she says. "Something wrong is going on in my community. And that is where my passion began. And so I decided to help out the girls."

  • This is why missionaries used to come to to heathen nations to bring them the Catholic Faith, which always involved tossing out the bad parts of their "native culture" -- anything incompatible with Catholicism. Enculturation be damned.

It doesn't matter if they've done this for centuries. The idea came from corrupt human nature and/or the devil and it's never too late to destroy such "culture" from the face of the earth.

  • If JPII were alive to hear this perhaps he'd say that this religion contains the "beads of the Word."

By the way, I once met a young girl in AMERICA who had been sold by her mother to a sheik in Saudi Arabia or someplace like that.  The sheik pays for her upkeep and training ( she spoke fluent French and ran marathons and I think she was about 12 years old ).  Then when she reaches legal age, he flies her over, inspects her, and either takes her as a wife / concubine or however it works there, or else throws her back into the water like a puny fish.

I was at a birthday party for a kid and this girl was there.  She spent no time with other kids and talked to me.  But I didn't know what was going on until later.  She seemed very mature and very sad.  I remember jumping around in the balls with her.  Looking back, it is really depressing.

  • 48 Women Raped Every Hour in Congo

    May 12th, 2011
    Via: AP:
The central African nation of Congo has been called the worst place on earth to be a woman. A new study released Wednesday shows it’s even worse than previously thought: 1,152 women are raped every day, a rate equal to 48 per hour.
That rate is 26 times more than the previous estimate of 16,000 rapes reported in one year by the United Nations.
Michelle Hindin, an associate professor at Johns Hopkins’ Bloomberg School of Public Health who specializes in gender-based violence, said the rate could be even higher. The source of the data, she noted, is a survey that was conducted through face-to-face interviews, and people are not always forthcoming about the violence they have suffered when talking to strangers.

  • I'm reminded of the commonly uttered rhetoric from Republicans, etc. with regard to the large number of black people living off Welfare:

"If they don't like it, they can go back to Africa. Why don't they? Because America is a far better, safer place for them, even WITHOUT welfare benefits and affirmative action."

Even if Obama passed a law requiring 25% of blacks to becomes slaves again, the black population would do well to stay here! I know, easy for me to say. But at least America has law and order.

As far as I can tell, Africa is the biggest hell-hole on earth. Just speaking objectively here.

What's interesting is that many blacks respond well to missionary activity. There were (and still are) groups of fervent Catholics from that part of the world. Archbishop Lefebvre himself was there for many years as a Holy Ghost Father (missionary order). He was the papal delegate to French-speaking Africa.

From what I can tell, God willed that the Europeans "take care of" the African people -- spiritually AND materially. I can't say that colonization of Africa by Catholic European monarchies was anything but a good thing. I know some will hate me for saying that, but it really seems to be true.

  • I like how the girl is given a pseudonym that's put in quotes, "Josephine," to protect her anonymity, as if someone reading this article and who knew that her real name is !Quantxi might go to Africa and ruin her reputation within the Samburu tribe ( even though that tribe condones "beading" anyway ).

The press is a dumbed-down propaganda machine.  Once you develop a sense of how silly most articles are, how much inconsistent information they contain, you will stop reading the articles.  I only read the posts of readers underneath the articles.

Who knows how much of this is even true.  But I'm sure there are many horrific practices in African paganism.

    Hi Raoul,
About the child prostitution in American. Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach are well-known centers of child prostitution and child pornography. I know you once mentioned that you live in the  South Bay area. Did this take place in the beach areas?
    Thanks,
    Cera

  • Yes our western culture is not really any better than this and we are supposed to be "civilized". With Abortion, child prostitution, sex trafficking, ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity, etc...

And considering that our western culture was based on Christianity, I think that we have less of an excuse than these Africans who probably have had less exposure to Christianity.

  • It is mainly the foreigners from the West who come to Third World countries to indulge in sex with children. Furthermore, the past several years has seen a never ending stream of stories of clergy in the West sɛҳuąƖly abusing children.

In Randy Engel's "Rite of Sodomy" there is a graphic description of the "activity" of the late Cardinal Wright, the same who wrote a "Letter of Commendation" concerning the SSPX.
