  • I wondered when this topic would come up.
Soy - it is in every food nearly - and that's not all, it does a whole lot of harm, and it's hard to avoid - it's like the equivolent of flouride, or some chemicals in processed foods - only this is such a toxen that is organic- which means it's in our organics.
Almost no matter what bread you buy, you can trust that it is chocked full of soy.

The ancient Chinese cultures even knew that soy was a poison, ergo, if even they knew it, why does not the FDA tell us about it?

To me it is so annoying having to read through all the labels to the products I buy.
Well, let's see, let's make sure it does not have these ingredients:
    Flouride
    Chlorine
    Soy
    Red 33
    Red 40
    Blue 1
    Yellow 5
    Yellow 6
    Green 5
Splenda [or one of its imitators]
    Aspartame
Monosodium Glutemate [MSG], Among other things.

Unfortunately, these things are in most products that can be found in any grociery store, and almost all of those in the above list are carcinogens.
Aspartame a decade ago was labeled as the number 1 killer toxen in the world. That's not to take into account the dangers of flouride and Splenda.

Flouride - it is in your tap, its in your food, your water, you clothing, you name it, it's got it.
Flouride, so what does it do?
You name it, it does it, that is, harmfully.
Think about this, if one drop of flouride were to toutch a man's skin, it would kill him. That's just one drop, that is how toxic it is.
So why is not everyone dead yet?
Because it is piece-mealed into everything, a 1/10000000th [give or take a few zeroes] per [I don't remember the percentages, but it was a very big amount of water for a very small amount of flouride.
But that small amount accuмulates over time, and it damages organs, causing many diseases, which the drug companies sell you, making tons of money off of everyone's infirmity.
It makes sense, we make you sick, we treat you.
That's the real slogan, they don't cure, but they will "treat" with drugs for the rest of your natural life, knawing at your wallet.
There's a slogan I saw once, and it is true, "Filter the water, or you become the filter".

And the same is the way that Soy is worked into everything, the wonder plant, which the companies use we make you sick, we treat you, it's good for business.

  • The two posts above are spot on.  As I mentioned in another thread, I used to work in a supermarket, so I can confirm that a huge percentage of products have soy in them, particularly the breads and pre-packaged organic "foods" (ie. not the fresh fruits and vegetables).  Yes, this is what I did during those late evening shifts when the store was dead quiet.

    The questions are:

What do you do to avoid all of the dangerous substances?  Do you grow some of your own food?  Is there a particular brand that is careful not to use those substances?

  • Perhaps if everyone had a cow there wouldn't be a problem.

  • It's simple.

Hydrolized soy protein, soy lecithin, etc. have only been around for a couple decades.

Meat, butter, eggs, cheese, vegetables, fruits, lard, sugar, molasses, honey, wheat, etc. have been around for MILLENIA. They must be good for humans, assuming you don't make a 100% diet off one of them.

The ancients didn't have soy in everything (they fermented it and ate it -- the Japanese for instance -- but that made it harmless), they didn't have all this processed food. And they didn't need fancy machines and technology to keep them alive.

Which is more than we can say today.

Of course, the soy present in most processed foods is hydrolized soy protein garbage.  Not the same thing as tofu or soy milk.

I don't know why trads are so anti-soy.  It's really weird.  I could just as easily post the "dark side of dairy", since it's disgusting and more dangerous than soy, but everyone would have a cow.

Many trads are anti-soy because trads alone today are likely to stop and think -- they question the assumptions that everyone so foolishly makes.

A disproportionate percentage of the "No TV in the house" crowd are Traditional Catholic. That alone will result in more thinkers.

Also, Trads are used to going against "conventional wisdom" which often turns out to be ANYTHING but wise.

  • Benedicta,

The arguments presented here (particularly by ChantCD) are very clear and (from what I have seen) completely accurate.  Soy is in almost every major group of processed foods these days and does indeed present a real danger to our health.  Please do some internet searching or read a few books.  I believe (if I remember correctly) that the original post mentions a book title.  Also, the Weston A. Price Foundation also provides some excellent material on the dangers of soy.

    Take a look.

  • Geez, no wonder I feel like crap. I have multiple sclerosis, but, as Trinity and I have said many many times to each other, they are poisoning us, slowly but surely. Even the young people in my life are sooooo tired and achy all the time. I do not remember feeling like that as a kid.

Indeed, most of us are agreed that this is a major problem.  My questions still stand though.  What are we to do about it?  How many of you grow your own food or try to make things from scratch instead of buying what a European friend calls "plastic food?"

  • ChantCD,

Although that was rather entertaining, my European friend is a Russian bloke, currently residing in Ireland.

I'd suspect that you (of all people) would have some positive solutions in this scenario.

    Any ideas?

  • I never knew all of this til I read this thread. So, this morning, I took out my big tub of "Smart Balance Omega-3"margarine. Yes,Pinoy, I purchased at the Jєωel. And voila it is soy crap. And to think that Paul Harvey would lie to me, I am crushed. I guess the smart thing is to go back to butter and forget about it. You just can not win at the grocery store.

  • What impresses me is that butter and lard have been around for centuries -- and people lived pretty darn long (assuming no bacteria killed them -- that's another issue) and WITHOUT being hooked up to machines.

Remember, we'll be back to that situation once "the fertilizer hits the ventilator" only we won't have good wholesome food like they had 100 years ago. So we'll have the WORST of both worlds -- 2007 denatured processed poisonous foods, and no knowledge of anything practical, with 1900's medical knowledge.
