"In the early 14th century, the order of the Knights Hospitaller of St. John of Jerusalem opened the first hospice in Rhodes, meant to provide refuge for travelers and care for the ill and dying.[3] Hospices flourished in the Middle Ages..."

Somebody down thumbed this post.  Apparently, they aren't fond of religious orders providing charity and mercy to the dying.  That's a pretty weird position for a traditional catholic

Yes, some people are very very selective in their dispensing of charity.

Hospice is a great way for a family to stay together as one dies.

It's also a great way for the nєω ωσrℓ∂ σr∂єr to kill off old people. The proof has been provided, it's up to you as to whether or not you believe it.

Since hospitals are government run, wouldn't they be dangerous too?? What do you do for care??

Hospitals are not euthanasia groups, Loriann. Hospice is.

Here SS overgeneralizes again.  For goodness sake, it appears that Catholics basically invented hospice!

Shrine of the Miraculous Medal
Follow the Youth Pilgrimage to France

"For over forty years St. Catherine served at Reuilly, tending to the cows and chickens in her care and administering to the patients of the hospice,"

http://www.sspx.org/district_news/youth_pilgrimage_2011/shrine_of_the_miraculous_medal.htm

Don't confuse their narratives with facts.

What about Dear St Damien and the lepers??

Most hospice here is church hospital run to take the strain off the hospitals.

"Pope Benedict XVI visited the Hospice in December 2009. His Holiness praised palliative care “capable of soothing pain brought about by the disease and helping the infirm to live with dignity” and accused the “modern society’s way of thinking which tends to reject the sick and consider them both a weight and problem”."

I wonder how many "the dangers of [blank]" threads there are on Cathinfo. Sometimes it makes me laugh. The thread title "Jews spying on your computer" also made me laugh. Who knows, they could all be legitimate concerns, but sometimes it's like we're self-parodying.
