I don't know what to think about all this: My husband lost his appitite for eating and was losing weight quickly, he just would not eat. I complained about this to Hospice, and they sent me a prescription for Megestrol Acetate Oral Suspension, a medicine that is very expensive, yet paid for by Hospice. This drug has given my husband an appitite and he has stopped losing weight. He now eats 3 meals per day, plus snacks and drinks Ensure that Hospice send me FREE. A case of Ensure every other week.
I believe my husband would have died 3 weeks ago when he was not eating, yet today he looks forward to his meals. In fact just today he told me he wanted a hamburger from Carl Jr. so I went out and got him one, of which he ate.
My husband IS dying and the doctor only gave him months to live, less than a year he said, that was 4 months ago, he is still dying, and I can see he is growing weak, but not from starving, thanks to the drug Megestrol.
I am not going to defend Hospice, and only posting my experience with them, of which I will continue to let you all know.
btw, Hospice doesn't really care for my husband I do it!, they just guide me. I will certainly pay extra attention to what they do, and say in the future.
I will say this, I am more afraid to send him to the hospital, where I will not have any control over what they give him there.
