Title: The Brown Scapular?
Post by: gobosox91 on April 18, 2012, 01:20:14 PM
I've been experiencing anti-Catholic claims for the last four months, and I've been wiped out with scrupulosity.

I recently purhcased a Brown Scapular at the request of a visionary named Jack Marie Smith (who has a bishop's letter approving him), but I wonder about it... doesn't it seem like idolatry? My mother thinks that.

Also involving logic, how can Mary bring us out of Purgatory the Saturday after our deaths if Heaven exists outside space and time? Is it the equivalent of our perception of time passed in general? our experiences?

The brown scapular is a pious devotion that is not part of the Faith.  I can't see how you think it's idolatry.  For some people it can tempt them to superstition.

Purgatory pretty clearly has a temporal aspect to it.

The Brown Scapular is not a talisman.  You have to be enrolled in the society and there are conditions you must do.  Research more information on the scapular.  I wear a five way scapular and even if you've been enrolled in the society for the brown scapular you must be enrolled to wear the five way scapular.  Always remember, scapulars are not talismans, you can not slip one over your head and expect Our Lady to help you if you don't give something to Her in return.

A lot of the arguments from Protestants, and weak Catholics, are founded on a lack of understanding or just play weakness.  Protestantism is a heresy so it wouldn't be guided in any way by the Holy Ghost so the conclusions drawn by a protestant is worthless, unless you want to compare it with wisdom.

Nothing that touches the Blessed Virgin Mary could be considered idolatry because it was God himself Who chose her.  Since God and Jesus were at the beginning (as the Gospel of John states) then it follows logically that she was chosen from the very beginning of creation to be the Blessed Mother.  As a Catholic, never apologize for any love, even if it seems over the top, that is directed toward our Beloved Mother.

The fact that Jack Marie Smith promotes the false Marian apparitions at Conyers, Georgia and at Garabandal, I would not trust him.

The fact that he makes himself public by doing speaking engagements and having a website where he talks about himself, I would not trust him either - humility is always displayed by those who actually did see the Blessed Virgin and Our Lord. They did not want the limelight, and actually preferred to have their apparitions kept private and not revealed.

There are currently over 215 people claiming that they are are receiving messages from the Blessed Virgin or our Lord. Either they are liars and are seeking attention or money, or are hallucinating from mental imbalance, or else the devil is appearing to them under appearance of Jesus and Mary. Satan always tries to lead people away from true revelations by false ones.

One should always reserve judgment on claimed private revelation to persons until the Church has made a full investigation and decreed that it is worthy of belief.
