Tomorrow will be the Blood Moon of Spring which means this next Saturday is the Sabbath for Jєωs and the Pasch for the Temple.

Moonrise today was around 7:30 Daylight Savings Time, so tomorrow it will be around 7:45 or 8:00 pm.

Right now, the lunar eclipse is beginning.  A little piece of the left side of the moon is starting to look like it is being "bitten off" by something.........

It should reach its full effect in one hour from now........

Here's an interesting picture from a few years ago:

Is this what's supposed to happen tonight?

...but that's from a website that calls this a "total lunar eclipse" :

..but this is really a picture of a total SOLAR eclipse.

Also in the picture in the previous post above, the first little image of the moon on the left side is incorrect, since it is a duplicate of the little image that appears on the RIGHT side of the picture, with the earth's shadow on the upper right corner of the moon.  So there are two errors of fact on the same website:

You're welcome.  Sometimes when these things happen the sky is cloudy and you miss it.  But in my area there are no clouds tonight.  The past week has had two very cloudy nights.

There is a live streaming video of this through LAtimes.com from NASA.......

from Marshall Space Center in Alabama!!!

In one minute it will be total...

The live stream shows a redness in the partial glow on the right lower side, but in my area there is a little cloud cover that suddenly came up, and I can't see the redness at all.

Now it's a total lunar eclipse................

Wow.

Here is another site that is still up:

There are voices of astronomers and stuff talking about this on the audio

The website above has a live video running that you can rewind and replay, for any of the past two hours and forty minutes, and counting.  Apparently this will continue for then next hour and a half, plus or minus....

The speaker right now is trying to assure everyone that what we are seeing is real, normal, predictable, and the universe is working as it should.  He says the redness is due to red shift of the light spectrum due to the atmosphere of the earth, and the moon isn't "turning red" but rather it APPEARS RED because there is a red light shining on it.

He says (in minute 2:38) that if you want to get weird, you have to go to the microscopic level.  We don't have to get all worried that a dragon is going to eat the moon.... The reason we're seeing what we're seeing is because we are standing on a planet that is spinning, and this might come as news to you, but it weighs 6.6 sextillion tons and is orbiting the sun at a rate of... blah, blah, blah.

Notice, he doesn't quote any means of measuring these things or of proving what he says.  He's the expert, you see, and what he says is the 'truth' because it is he who is saying it (kind of personal infallibility).  These megamouths are setting themselves up for a lot of explaining to do.

The website has lost sound...  probably too many viewers....
Stuck at 2:44:56 ..........
Maybe he said something too incriminating!!  Maybe they had to shut down the sound..........

But the running comments are still active (in reverse order, because the new comments come in at the top and the list moves down) :

I could have started a new thread about the eclipse but I didn't realize there would be so much to post.

A total lunar eclipse is coming Tuesday, and there has been plenty of talk about the "blood moon" and the beginning of a lunar tetrad. Whether or not you believe in prophecies, the total lunar eclipse will be a skywatcher's delight and there will be several live streams of the event.

While you can view the full moon on Monday, those wishing to see the total lunar eclipse will have to stay up late. According to NASA, the eclipse will begin around 2 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, when the moon will enter the partial shadow, or penumbra, of the Earth. During that time, stargazers will see a sped-up version of the phases of the moon. The peak of the total lunar eclipse begins at 3:45 a.m. EDT, when the moon enters Earth's shadow, known as the umbra. During that time, the moon will turn a shade of red.

[It's now 3:50 EDT]

Slooh astronomer Bob Berman explains the phenomenon: "All the world’s sunrises and sunsets send their indirect light to the moon at this time -- as the only light hitting the Moon. The result is that the fully eclipsed moon assumes a gorgeous coppery color." The total lunar eclipse will be visible across North America.

The Virtual Telescope Project will also have a live stream of the lunar eclipse, The broadcast begins at 2:30 a.m. EDT and can be viewed here. A fourth lunar eclipse live stream will originate from Columbus State University beginning at 11 p.m. EDT.

NASA's total lunar eclipse live stream begins around 2 a.m. EDT, and the space agency hosted a Reddit AMA session with planetary scientist Renee Weber. The space agency will host a Web chat with astronomer Mitzi Adams and astrophysicist Alphonse Sterling beginning at 1 a.m. EDT at the dedicated lunar eclipse page.

The Slooh broadcast will originate from the Prescott Observatory in Arizona and will feature Berman, Slooh observatory director Paul Cox and Duncan Copp, professor emeritus of astronomy at University of California Berkeley, discussing the total lunar eclipse. As Slooh notes, the total lunar eclipse comes on the heels of the closest approach of Mars. As stargazers observe the eclipse they will also be able to see Mars and Spica, a bright blue star.

At 3:08 they started running out of things to talk about so the megamouth started preaching about how astronomy is every day, not just when you go to the Observatory with the family and get some pizza and look at the exhibits.  He said we have Sunday for the sun and Monday for the moon and Tuesday for Mars and Wednesday for Jupiter (Woden) and Friday (Viernes) is for Venus and Saturday for Saturn.  Thursday is the hardest one (mumbles).

At minute 3:20 - 3:26 the megamouth is talking about the Foucault pendulum at Griffith Observatory, and people are asking questions.  Of course, nobody asks him the question he can't answer, and even if they did, he wouldn't recognize it, but would answer some other (possibly unrelated) question.  They need to have a team of about 4 visitors who keep asking the same question over and over and over and over, until it becomes clear that they don't have an answer.  Do you know what the big question is?

At minute 3:36 they show a ridiculous goofball in a blue clown suit wearing a wizard hat saying that "By the power invested in me by the city of Los Angeles," he has to say SOMETHING to make the demons quit harassing our poor moon.  He checks what time it is.

Then with the help of a bunch of volunteers, he starts chanting:  Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone!

"Very monotonous."
Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone! Dragon be gone!

The Griffith Observatory is turning into a circus.  Or, maybe it's always been a circus.

Is this what's supposed to happen tonight?

.

As it turned out, this was pretty much what we did see last night, with the exception of the last bright spot being on the BOTTOM right side of the moon, and upon re-emergence it was on the bottom left side.

This poster, above, shows it on the top right and then, oddly, on the bottom left.  (Also, the first small image on the left side is obviously a copy of the lowest or last image on the right, and this is not possible, so it must be put there to somehow make the guy composing the poster feel good or whatever.)

Apparently the reason for this redness is that the earth's shadow was falling on the moon in such a way that the moon was close to the bottom of the earth's shadow.  In the poster, above, the moon was close to the top of the earth's shadow, at least in the left half of the small images.  The images on the right half show actually much the same as what we saw last night.  Therefore, it seems the poster, above, has a lot of objective error in it, since the orientations of the partially illuminated moon images don't look like anything that would happen all in one event, but rather are a mix of two or more events.

Usually, when there is a total eclipse of the moon, the moon is more toward the center of the earth's shadow, and there, no redness shines on it because the various sunsets of the earth cast their red hue in a ring around the edge of the earth's shadow, and that's not where the moon usually is during a total eclipse.

I have seen some predictions that say tonight there will be a BLOOD MOON as the moon rises in the east, around 8:00 pm, worldwide.  That's in a half hour from now............................

I'm not sure about this, but if you don't want to miss the blood moon tonight, you ought to be out looking before it's too late.  For those of you in Europe, you may have already missed it.  And Mountain, Central and Eastern US might also be too late.  I'm just getting ready to watch on the west coast.

Glad to see somebody else stayed up to watch God's show, and only God could have produced it. As a hopeful Astronomy Major in College in the mid 1960's I remember driving about 40 miles away from the large midwestern city I lived in to watch a total lunar eclipse from a observation tower in an adjoining county. I was a falling away Methodist at that time. Very "scientifically" oriented. And I recall that I thought it was quite spectacular.

Needing to get employed to marry my fiance, and not able to get past college calculus (too many work hours to support myself) I abandoned that pursuit.

Fast forward almost an entire adult lifetime and in the late 1990s I converted from my state as a then confirmed agnostic to Catholicism and by the grace of God was drawn almost immediately into traditional Catholicism.

Along the way I had the extraordinary grace to meet the CI poster known as Cassini, who, in an enchanting evening dinner at his family's home, introduced me to heliocentrism as the Church's first brush with the spirit of masonic spirited rebellion in the form of Galileo and heliocentrism "proved" by science. A brush in which the church stumbled afterwards which really set the stage for the development of Modernism.

So my conversion was doubly difficult as I had to really change my world view orientation much more than I ever dreamt the religious conversion was going to involve.

With this history, you can imagine when I witnessed this lunar eclipse last night how much more profoundly spiritual an experience it was, compared to the 1960's one. Watching God's celestial ornaments move through the sky and knowing that it was clear, certain, and sure evidence of Him made the event something which I can never forget. A red moon hung in the sky surrounded by stars and accompanied by a bright blue star and the brilliant orange Mars, all plainly visible with the naked eye, produced a memory that is burned into my head.

As it was unseasonably cold last night (but extremely dry, with crystal clear cloudless visibilities) I watched the start of the eclipse online, switching from several sites that were covering the event.

The reason for the switching was I could only take so much of the woefully inane commentary from some of these sites which proved that these so called expert scientists were clueless, and deliberately and self inflictedly so.

What a shame that when God shows himself to Man, who was created and endowed to know Him by what man experiences everyday, and especially when God produces something as extraordinary as a blood moon, Man rejects his own capacity for reason and worships instead on the altar of a perverted "science".

It is comforting to come here tonight and see that God still has a few admirers who appreciated His show, and was annoyed by the callow commentary.

I just saw the moon rise, starting about 1 hr. 20 min. ago, and it is most assuredly not red anymore.  So I guess the "blood moon" was an aspect of yesterday's total lunar eclipse.  Ironically, I was unable to see the totality or the redness, because just before that happened, clouds covered the moon, just long enough for the redness to fade away.  I saw a little bit of the red or dark orange, really, on the left side just before the clouds came in.

The clouds were not there at all before the eclipse, so I had expected a very good view.  Today, I spoke to my neighbor who said he was watching it with his telescope and he could see planes flying back and forth in the sky leaving trails of white fog behind them, and that is what covered the moon during the eclipse: contrails.  I told him I didn't hear any planes or see them, and he replied that they were flying too high up to be heard, and too small to see without the telescope at night like that.

So the "full moon" must have been yesterday, as a full moon is necessary for a total eclipse to happen.  Now I can see a faint hint of a shadow on the top right edge of the moon in the sky, so that's probably the beginning of the waxing gibbous that will grow in the following days toward Easter.

I just checked the Griffith Observatory website and found this Cyrillic message there (Russian?):

Марина Щербак
Марина Щербак

Thank God for a sign that He is coming soon. This is very good news! Yes pass away his kingdom! The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. Bible Acts 2:20

Спасибо Богу за знак что Он скоро прейдет. Это очень радостная новость!!! Да прейдет Его Царство!!! Деян.2:20 Солнце превратится во тьму, и луна - в кровь, прежде нежели наступит день Господень, великий и славный.

I'm thinking, it's too bad Acts 2:20 doesn't say anything about contrails covering the moon when it's turned to blood.

A priest friend told me that he wants to thank me for my support and it's been great being my priest, but just in case, he wants to say "goodbye" because there is a possibility that God will stop these blasphemous Newcanonizations scheduled for Low Sunday (only they're calling it "divine mercy sunday") by simply ending the world during the next 10 days.  I'm not sure but I think he was trying to joke with me.  But after seeing the blood moon eclipse and reading this Russian's post, above, I'm not so sure anymore that it was really a joke......................

It's interesting to see it in those terms.  I hope you realize you could write a book on this topic.  Maybe the world needs a book like that.  You could have just enough time to finish it before it's "too late."

Yours is not the first time.  Imagine how many of the ancient Jєωs who practiced washing their hands religiously before eating, had any idea that they were doing a RELIGIOUS RITUAL that would be PERFECTED in the revelation of God in His Onlybegotten Son, Who would reveal to the world that you must confess your sins and have washed clean your soul (not your hands) before you receive Holy Communion (not in the hand!), and it would not be ordinary food but the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Our Lord.  It's pretty safe to say there was not one of the old Israelites who could have imagined that in their wildest dreams.  Therefore, when Our Lord gave his Bread of Life discourse in John vi., most of His disciples said, Forget This, and walked away -- I'm Not About To Eat Your Body and Drink Your Blood -- if they had been dreaming of it, it wouldn't have been so unbelievable.

You were witness to a lot more to see than I was, where I was at, due to some cloud cover that managed to obscure only the best part.  What a bummer!  But then, it has made me all the more interested in your account.  Could you please provide more detail??????  PLEASE??????

What I have to share is the following.  As the eclipse was in progress and I had to watch it on the Internet (which you can rewind and see HERE (http://new.livestream.com/GriffithObservatoryTV/LunarEclipse)), I was able to recite the following Gregorian Chant while the Griffins and gargoyles at Griffith chanted, "Dragon be gone!" 50 times:

Christus factus est pro nobis obediens usque ad mortem, mortem factem crucis.
Propter quod et Deus exaltavit illum, et dedit illi nomen, quod est super omne nomen.

Cristo se hizo obediente por nosotros
Cristo se hizo obediente por nosotros, hasta la muerte y muerte de cruz.

For which cause, God also hath exalted Him and hath given Him a Name
which is above all names.

Neil, Thank you very much for the music.

As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. There are many beautiful pictures of the eclipse posted online, including serial photographic studies of the entire event.

http://www.space.com/25488-total-lunar-eclipse-photos-april-2014.html

During the 15-20 minutes I observed it outside of my home the color of the moon was something between copper and champaign. It was lighter, or paler than I expected based on the description of blood moon. But that color provided very little illumination especially compared with the brilliant full moon light which immediately preceded it, and which had turned my outdoors into a white fantasyland, which seemed designed to set the viewing stage, made possible due to a thick dusting of pure white fresh fallen immaculately clean snow which had coated everything, including trees and brush as with frosted sugar.

As a result of the moon's eclipse, the jet black sky was brilliantly illuminated by as many stars as one might expect to see on a night of dry air with no moon, but which now provided the dimmed red moon, its bright blue star neighbor, and the nearby brilliant orange copper Mars, with a sparkling, twinkling backdrop.

The air was crisp and clear, perfect for astronomy. Too, there was no wind, and no sound, even the normal nighttime sounds of distant car traffic or a passing freight train were absent, as if God deliberately silenced the earth to remove any impediments to being mesmerized by the the visual.

This heavenly demonstration could not simply just be seen with Catholic eyes, but was created to be experienced by the Catholic soul as well.

Have a Blessed Easter!
