  • He's made his request, but Vandaler hasn't come through. Anyone seen him? Anyone else like making avatars?

  • I have been busy lately.

    I did offer my services, but nothing specific was requested.

  • Busy is a good reason. But, for the record, here was the request:

    I would not want to start a debate on your avatar again, but for the life of me, I dislike yours so much, I can make a new one for you if you wish.

    Just give me some theme you would like, I'll make one, you can take it or reject it as you wish, I enjoy doing this anyhow as a hobby.

    I got it.  Before the Masons put that Aztec pagan symbol of the eagle eating the serpent on the cactus on Mexico's flag, the Virgen de Guadalupe was on it.

    So basically (if you'd be so kind Vandaler) I'd like an avatar of Mexico's flag as it used to be.

    With a nice image of the tilma of St. Juan Diego in the middle of the flag instead of that pagan monstrosity.

  • I think the three colors came into being along with the eagle. Here was the original flag used in 1810:

  • I saved that picture of the flag on my computer. I like it a lot.  :smile: I will see about a few picture ideas that El Campy can use for another avatar.  :smirk:

  • I had trouble putting the images up. I tried the IMG option, but I do not know if that is right now. Is it the URL one instead? Or what do I do?

    Thank You...

    I have gone dark a while, even detaching myself from news has it was starting to get to me....

    The thread evolved without my knowledge.  I will see what I can do around the theme proposed.

    Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

  • Thank you Mater for the beautiful specimen.

    Well for what it's worth here is my effort... I cloned from the existing letters what I needed to write your name.

    Not sure it makes an avatar per say, but it was fun doing anyway.

  • Here I replaced the original flag icon from the current one.

    This pops a bit more for an avatar.  Anyhow, hope it will find you well.

  • Thank ye very much Vandaler.

    I'm curious about how you've found or drawn those letters with a font so similar to the flag.

    Copies - resizes and manipulations of the existing letters above.

    C = G with the excess erased
    A = Allready there.
    M = Obtained by erasing the excess out of IXXR
    PE = Allready there in the proper order
    A = Allready there

    D = Allready there
    O = Two supperimposed P (the second behing flipped horizontally) provided the nice round shape, and then erased the excess (P legs)
    R = Allready there
    S = Allready there
    H = Used the U, but slid the bottom part higher making it an H
    I = Allready there
    N = Further manipulated the M, previously did.

    So, in essence, it is not only similar, it's perfectly in line with the original caligraphy.

    Don't feel like you need to use it as an avatar, it took me 15 minutes and I had more fun doing it then you have of watching it... It was actually selfish of me if you see it that way.

    Thank you, I didn't know that.

    I'm curious Mater Dominici, what do the bottom and middle rows of letters on the right side of the flag mean?

    Any other meanings on the flag that I might not see initially?

    In the schools in Mexico they teach the meanings of the colors of the Mexican flag, though I don't know what they are.  The pagan Aztec symbol's meaning is obvious, but I wonder if there isn't something more to it.

    EDIT
    Also, can you tell me anything about what's in the two upper corners?
