It usually isn't enough to come onto a thread and say -- this is Church teaching -- Boom! And swagger off as if all will bow in awe of one's intelligence and then if they don't, watch out!

Well, if people posting here would provide a source such as a catechism or theological source there would be less fighting about it. This is seldom done on this forum. You actually can quote the catechism (and boom) you'll be quoting a safe at minimum Catholic teaching.

I agree, but then we have those few who will say, well they changed their mind after they said that, or that is a mistranslation, or that was an error in what that Saint or theologian said.  etc. etc.

Well, the forum owner should not tolerate those who argue against the catechism.

Despite popular rumor, I don't allow blasphemy or other concrete error to be spewed on CathInfo.

I've banned plenty of people over the years for puritanism, protestantism, blasphemy, etc.

And I've also censored plenty of posts that needed it.

Show me the problem, and I'll deal with it. If one of the hundreds of solidly Catholic members here doesn't bother to PM me about it, it can't be that bad.

Because I'll tell you -- the real problems always get brought to my attention -- usually by several people.

As Wallflower so wisely pointed out, some people lose the ability to identify (or get along with) anyone who isn't EXACTLY in their situation -- to the point that they withdraw and form a tight-knit "mini cult" of like-minded friends. It's like they lose touch with reality or the big picture.

Matthew could eliminate the problem if he wanted to.

One thing is for sure: there are some things "above the pay grade" of a forum moderator. I can't fix everything with my "edit" and "delete" buttons

Yes, but banning repeat offenders is fairly effective, wouldn't you say?
