Tiffany you seem like an intelligent woman but increasingly it seems you've taken on the habit that Tele and Co. seem to thrive on which is reading what you want in a post rather than what's there. Ggreg has said nothing to "attack" homeschooling or "promote" public schools. You are exaggerating his post to mean what you want it to mean.
It usually isn't enough to come onto a thread and say -- this is Church teaching -- Boom! And swagger off as if all will bow in awe of one's intelligence and then if they don't, watch out!
This is especially not true in areas of family life that have culture differences and/or lee-way depending on circuŠ¼stances,
per Church teaching. I didn't know ggreg's school was single sex or had uniforms. That was interesting to me. Doesn't change my mind about public schools but it's interesting nonetheless that other countries do things differently and possibly less horrendously. Going back and forth
discussing different aspects of an issue is what makes a forum interesting. If a person wants a place where they can simply tell the world their thoughts, views and perspectives in monologue form, or have yes-men who will hang on their every word, they can start a blog.
It has nothing to do with disagreeing with or not following Church teaching. It has to do with exploring why Church teaching is what it is. There are usually reasons behind it, aspects that can be explained and discussed in more detail, interesting exceptions to note. Aside from dogma, the Church leaves a lot of room for dialogue. Different people posting may have different experiences that either prove the rule or are exceptions to the rule. It comes down to the ability to recognize that it's one thing to know Church teaching, it is another to know its application. Some people really have difficulty analyzing the latter even if they can spout the former until the cows come home. There is a difference.
It's fascinating that some of the people who call "cult" the most are the very ones who want their own. They spout "Church teaching" and if anyone dares vary in any way, even on things the Church Herself allows, then they are going against "the Church". Hmm, whose Church? The Catholic Church that often admits exceptions and differences or their own "Church" that does not? I'm not talking about discussing what may be good, better or best options or bad, worse and worst options, and trying to edify one's neighbor, because there again, it admits
discussion, talking, civilly, back and forth. I'm referring to this compulsive need to force one's own posts down everyone else's throats, or else. That behavior is not good or virtuous and although people have their moments, when it becomes
habit that is so engrained that a person can't relate to anyone who isn't in their exact boat, then some brutally honest self-examination is on order.
