I think it comes down to Original Sin.
Everything man touches he corrupts -- sort of like a twisted version of King Midas.
Ultimately it's the devil that wants to twist everything God created, from the holy bonds of Matrimony (which the devil turns to lust, fornication, adultery) to guns (murder) to food (gluttony) to cars (reckless driving, laziness, obsession with cars), monarchy (tyranny), religion (superstition, heresy, etc.), even the Mass! (black masses)
I could make a list of hundreds of such examples. I don't think there's one beautiful/good thing God created that the devil doesn't want to twist and distort into something evil. It's what the devil does.
And since original sin, man helps him. Man's damaged nature now makes such corruption easy and natural for him. Without a struggle -- without sanctifying grace -- such corruption is unavoidable.
Technology is just another victim in the long line of things that the devil/fallen man have corrupted.
