  • I just killed this spider (about the diameter of a quarter) but after I crushed her once with a paper towel, around 30 little baby spiders came out! Talk about a shock! So it was a pregnant mother, I guess.

I always thought spiders came from egg sacs. Anyhow, I've killed a LOT of spiders in my time, but I've never had this happen to me before.

Like something out of a B horror movie!

  • KILLER   :light-saber: joking... :roll-laugh1:

Well, you are lucky, in TX there are HUGE cockroches EVERYWHERE!! Everytime I go in the kitchen I have to have dear hubby kill another. I am becoming the wife who cried wolf in his opinion because I do scream (or loudly gasp) when I see them, but he thinks they are no big deal. They are SO gross. Anyway, yeah, that is disgusting!!

:fryingpan: this is what I am doing to the bugs next time!

  • A couple of years ago something like this happened to me.

I was poking at a strange solidified globule on a plant.  I poked it, it stretched like spiderweb...

LOTS of little baby spiders started coming out.  Needless to say, we ran like heck.

I think I was in Missouri or Arkansas.

You're certainly right about that! Matthew had to warm up to killing roaches when he moved to TX. Ours seem to be under control for now ... he'll have to share with you his secrets.

  • Yes -- you need to remove decaying matter from alongside your house, for one.

For me that meant removing a few bushes in front, and all the rotting wood chips that surrounded the bushes. I found quite a few roaches while I was doing that...

Funny how we haven't had one in many months now.

They're also in my compost pile, but that's many feet from the house, about as far as can be, as a matter of fact.

Also, it helps to make sure your house is sealed. I bought a can of that yellow foam stuff, and used it to fill in some openings (such as in the attached garage/laundry room).

I also keep the grass/weeds away from the house -- I create a dead zone of about 2 feet (minimum).

Last but not least, once in a while I'll spray the perimeter with some of that "home barrier" stuff you buy in a gallon for $7 or $8. But I haven't used that since last fall, and we still don't have any roaches.

  • Those roaches are pretty sneaky, they can fit anywhere!  I heard a story where a man felt something inside his ear.  His wife decided to pick at it with a q-tip and out came crawling one of them!  Since I've heard that story, I've been hesitant to sleep over friends' places just in case they have roaches.

  • I bought a used fridge once. Then I started noticing cockroaches in my apartment. They came from the fridge. I ended up eating some of the cockroach eggs or droppings. I had severe diarrhea for 10 days. I lost 10 lbs in those 10 days.

    Never buy a used fridge!
