The Community now at Syon Abbey was canonically established in 1962 to teach and defend the full and integral Catholic and Roman faith, by means of the printed word especially.
What do they mean by the above statement?

Not sure, but a quick look at their website reveals promising writing. However, I'm always speculative of what seems to be secrecy such as this:
Though he was New England born and bred, the theological training of its founder had taken place, years before, in Old England, and there he had learned to know and love the monasticism which had made England Catholic. In a wicked hour she had turned against the Faith, and little now remained of Catholic (and therefore Merry) England, but there were, on every side, memorials of the monastic past, and these acted powerfully on his imagination and fired his ambition.
They do seem traditional, however:
The Mass of the Apostles
by the Abbot of Syon
The Modernists are always saying that what we call The Mass and what they sneeringly call "the old and superceded rite" is really no very ancient thing, being the creation of Saint Pius the Fifth in the sixteenth century, but they lie; they are sons worthy of their father, who was a liar from the first, a murderer of the truth from the beginning.
...
So our Mass is the Mass of the ages. It comes down to us not from the sixteenth century, not from medieval times, not from that era men call the Dark Ages, not from the catacombs, but from the Church of the Apostles, and ultimately, indeed, from Him Who is its principal Priest and its spotless Victim.

Fr. Nugent, I believe, was and still is the abbot. He relocated from Oregon and built Syon Abbey in Copper Hill, Va. (on the Blue Ridge Parkway) using the famous Cram and Ferguson as architects. Back in 2007, around the time it was close to completion, I believe there were only 4 monks living and working at the Abbey.

Thank you both for the response.
I have been researching further since I last posted. They are quite discreet.
Now for the big question, which they do not answer themselves, do they use the name "Benedictio" in the canon of the Mass?

I would think there would be many other questions before that one. Anyway, they are sedevacantists, so I doubt their masses are "una cuм."

As far as I know, they are a sedevacantist or rather sedeprivationist group around the abbot Nugent, affiliated with bishop McKenna, following the rule of St. Benedict. Before, they were situated in Oregon.
I do not know what happened in 1962, but they might have been somehow established under the reign of John XXIII., whom many sedeprivationists consider to have been a valid Pope. For the establishment of an Abbey, the consent of Holy See as well as the local Ordinary is needed.
Of course, a real Abbot needs to have actual jurisdiction, confirmed by the Pope in case of exempt Abbey, the local Bishop, should they not be exempt.*
*Of course, I know you might disagree, but for whatever it's worth, this is the legislation, whether it applies or not
Edit: Ups, I was too slow there. Surely they are not "una cuм", if they still hold this position.

Thank you very much Phyrros. I hope all is well.

I need to share this with anyone interested in Syon Abbey.:
1. The Abbey was not canonically established as they have been led us to believe. While in KY, Fr. Francis Nugent was in defiance of his bishop (Ackerman), having his faculties removed in 1966 (before V2 was even implemented). This bishop never asked him to start an abbey. Since he had no grounds in good faith to establish the Abbey, the jurisdiction that the Church would supply according to Canon 209, would not apply.
2. No one, so far as I know, (and I'm tired of looking) can find an official record of his ordination and he has given different stories of where and when he was ordained. The dioceses of Boston, Wichita, Fort Wayne and Covington, all those where has has worked (maybe there are more), have no record of having ordained him. He has told people he was ordained in 1952, 1957 and 1958. If anyone has located the records, please chime in. I do not assert that he was not ordained, but things appear to be highly irregular and this has caused some anxiety.
3. He had been convicted of second degree sɛҳuąƖ abuse of a teen boy in 1984 in Curry County OR by jury trial. He has denied the charges, saying he was falsely and maliciously accused, but all of the facts are against him. We have information that this is the tip of the iceberg.
There is much I could post, but I think that is the information that people need to know.
I should say that I have never heard or read anything by Fr. Nugent that smelled of heresy. He appears to hold the Faith. There is an open question regarding sedevacantism, but that is an extremely minor issue compared to these others. Join us in praying for his reform. We can't support them anymore on the account of the deceptions.

If he really has lied about being ordained, it is hard for me to see how he holds the faith.
-
We are hoping that he didn't lie about being ordained. We only know for certain that he lied about the where/when/bishop of his ordination. That he would lie about any of this has serious implications and we certainly can't trust him about anything-- even the faith at this point.

An update on the above-- We finally got word on Fr. Nugent's ordination. Diocese of Wichita, 4/6/1957, Bishop Mark Kenny Carroll. Apparently, the records were not easy to reach. We are glad to have this officially verified. Still the several different stories of his ordination remain.

Thank you all for this information which I was not aware of. I hadn't even looked at this thread for a while and am glad I did.
I have never liked secrecy when it comes to important things. If the depend on support why do they hide?
I also don't like clergy hiding whether they are SV or not. Why can't you say what you are without imposing it on others (as being necessary for the Sacraments)? The opposite (imposing the conclusion on the laity before the can receive the Sacraments is even worse) but still, it is nice to know who you are dealing with and if the name Ratzinger in the canon. If they are afraid of being attacked for their beliefs they joined the wrong religion.

Trying to prevent a relative from making a grave error involving the Syon Abbey. Can you point me in the direction of evidence for you posts please? Thanks
