  • You are soooo right, Matto.  I don't know enough of them.  Kindness seems to be a forgotten art.

  • I have a theory that the worst people in the world are the bad Catholics who are daily communicants or priests, because in addition to their regular sins, every morning they desecrate the Holy Eucharist, which I once heard described as the worst sin. I do not know if my theory is true or not. Maybe those you call "pit vipers" are of that kind.

  • I didn't mean to call them pit vipers;  just likened the experience to cuddling one.  Your theory is good, I think, just doesn't go far enough.  It's more like their faith being wasted on them, because they don't live it.  More sins of omission than commission.  Little things, you know, like responding to people.  Little politenesses.  One of the gifts of the Holy Ghost is hospitality.  How we are to treat our enemies, etc.  Live the whole gospel.  With things like bullying, you've missed the point of Christ's teaching.  It has become so ingrained in Catholicism that it goes unnoticed by most.

  • God has seen fit to allow Judases, etc., among the ranks.  It is all part of the process of purifying us and strengthening us in the combat.

FWIW, the vast majority of us waste some grace or other -- usually many, many graces and gifts.  Still, the munificent God continues to pour out His treasures upon us.  Let us be thankful, and do what we can to profit from them all henceforth.

I have the exact same theory, Matto.

This would explain (to me) how dysfunctional Mass centers delude themselves into thinking that they are the Holy Elect of the End Times; their problem is the Devil targeting the Remnant of the Church.

This theory might also touch on some problems regarding the Sacrament of Confession.

FWIW, these are the gifts of the Holy Ghost: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety (godliness), and fear of the Lord.

Hospitality is a wonderful thing, to be sure, but it is not a gift of the Holy Ghost.
