  • What if there were some forum where members could learn truths and doctrine from chosen experts on this forum?

There are some posters who are experts on certain aspects of theology, and they should do classes with weekly instalments or "lessons". The idea being to build up the learning of students until they are experts as well.

Failing that, someone should volunteer as a mentor for n00bs and school them on the faith.

The faith must be passed on, in its fullness.

I don't think we at cathinfo have many real experts on this forum.

I agree with Matto except that I would remove the 'm' from "many".

That is why we need to learn our Faith from approved catechisms, pre-Vatican II books, the pre-Vatican theologians and the Popes.

This CathInfo forum library along with the Bellarmine Forum Library are packed with masterpieces of theology, all from Popes, and pre-Vatican II theologians and canonists.

The Bellarmine Forum library can be found HERE

If you want to learn theology, always start with the basics,

    1.  The Baltimore Catechism or a similar regional Catechism.  If you have already read a basic catechism, then read a good explanation of the catechism found HERE.

    2.  Then move to a more advanced explanation of the catechism, Spirago Clarke is the excellent:
    found HERE

    3.  When reading the catechisms and their commentaries, always read them with humility, accepting what they teach.  Keep in mind that you are the student, not the master, and you must be docile.  This is where many go wrong.

After you finish reading #1 & 2, I can give you some good recommendations on what to read next.  A good pre-Vatican II priest and friend of mine, once told me that when you learn the Faith, you must first ground yourself in the basics before you advance.

I cannot stress enough that the key ingredient in your quest to learn theology is humility, meekness and docility.  Pray for these or your learning will only harm you, not help you.  I have encountered many Catholics who have read encyclical letters, papal bulls, the Fathers, the Councils. Etc., but their knowledge is dangerous, as they make themselves the authority, and have learned their Faith without docility.

Some such as these do not accept the catechisms and even stand in judgment of papal teaching.  Never allow yourself to learn from them.  Learn your Faith from approved sources only, and you will be safe.
The Council of Trent, The Catechism of the Council of Trent, Papal Teaching, The Teaching of the Holy Office, The Teaching of the Church Fathers, The Code of Canon Law, Countless approved catechisms, The Doctors of the Church, The teaching of the Dogmatic

  • You  might consider taking catechism classes. The only problem is finding someone in your area.  If you can't find someone in your area then you're better off reading the books recommended above.

The Catechism of St. Pius X might be a good start since it is short and easy to understand.
