I wrote this game, and completed it just today:

https://freesudokupuzzlegame.wordpress.com/

Android version:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.twosquidgames.ninesquids.android&hl=en

The desktop version is a Java JAR executable, so it runs on any kind of Windows, Mac, or Linux. You should be able to run it by double-clicking it. (You have to have Oracle's Java Runtime installed to run the game. http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre8-downloads-2133155.html)

It will also be released for the Android-based OUYA independent game console.

I didn't do the graphics; that was my sister's work.

This game was made by 2 Traditional Catholics. If you could help spread the word about our game, we'd both be very grateful. It's an excellent rendition of Sudoku, very polished, with a lot of good features, and more to come.

The independent game business is insanely difficult, mostly the area of discovery, or getting your game found/tried out by people. In other words, trying to get your single voice to carry louder than the surrounding din. There are so many games flooding the market!

If the game is free, do you make any money for all the work you put into it?

Well, the "basic version" is free. You get 100 puzzles.

If you want more difficult ones, or 13,500 puzzles, you can pay the whopping $1 for the "Premium Edition".

The Android version will mostly monetize through advertising. I'm hoping to finish up that version and release it in the next couple days.

I realize that most Sudoku players would prefer a portable (phone, tablet) version of a game like this. Few people would play games like this on their desktop PC. But still, I wanted to release it.

The development system I'm using allows you to write once and release on many platforms. So the desktop version is mostly a bonus.
