From what I heard, St. Pius X was attacked for his "uncharitable" treatment of the modernists. In retrospect, he may not have been hard enough on them (burning at the stake, anyone?).
I think you're right, but I don't think at the time that would quite have
qualified for the
Advocatus Diaboli hit list! IYKWIM
For one, if it HAD, there is a recent article by the infamous Modernist
Fr. R.P. McBrien of Notre Dame University, in which he accuses Pope St.
Pius X of this very
faux pas. IMHO, if there were any such item on the
list that he would have been able to drag out, like hound dog would a
buried bone in the yard, he
would have. But he didn't.
So I doubt there are any such findings of note to be found!
Giuseppe Melchiorre Sarto as a young man, a seminarian, a
priest, a bishop, an archbishop, a cardinal and ultimately the Holy
Roman Pontiff, led a model life of sanctity any way you slice it. His
life is a stellar example of what a saint is, and what saints
can be in our age.
He grew up with Modernism all around him, just as we do today, so
he is a great model of holiness.
Sancte Pie Decime, gloriose Patrone, ora, ora pro nobis!.
