Scrolling down a way is the heading Stigmata outside the Catholic Church.

I would never have considered such a thing.

Is it possible? Is it from Heaven or hell?  Or is it someone writing with creative license?

Please give me your opinion or proof, NOT just a "Thumbs Down"  I'm only the messenger !  I'm sincerely perplexed.

  • I think this part is interesting:

Firstly what is most interesting in the cases of stigmata that have occurred outside of the Catholic church is how closely they often resemble in the basic facts the ones that have occurred over the centuries within the Church---but in almost every case there is one major difference: In the vast majority of the cases outside of the Catholic church the persons whom have received the stigmata soon begin public healing ministries wherein there is the "laying of the hands" upon the sick or infirmed--in other words, they believe that their stigmata wounds contain healing powers and that soon after the reception of the stigmata they feel called to participate in public healing services.
For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders, insomuch as to deceive (if possible) even the elect. (Matthew 24:24)

  • Well, if you're a follower of +Williamson, this must prove that the Holy Spirit works outside the Church also (like Vatican II says).

    [/sarcasm]

We do not do theology based on alleged preternatural phenomena.

There are no genuine stigmata outside the Holy Catholic Church.  Period.

I think this depends on the meaning of genuine. I wonder if it is possible for the devils to give someone the stigmata or other miracles to fool people into false religions. I remember once reading about a false mystic from a few centuries ago who sadly I don't remember the name of who fooled many people but later on in her life she admitted that she had made a deal with the devil and he was responsible for her mystical powers and supposed miracles.
    R.I.P.
Please pray for the repose of my soul.

    Genuine meaning legitimately from God.

Absolutely.  Piece of cake.  Just like it's a piece of cake for them to mimic "Eucharistic miracles" ... which therefore prove absolutely nothing on their own.  We do not do theology from such alleged phenomena.  In fact, quite the other way around, we subject the phenomena to scrutiny under the principles of Catholic theology to determine whether they're genuine.  That's why +Williamson has it ass backwards.

  • The devil can do such things. Did he not make himself into a dog.  Yes, he can do magic.  We the Anti-Christ comes, we are to be so fooled by miracles, only I don't think the bible refers to the magic as miracles?
