  • Made of white fibrelglass, looks more like Hubie Kazmarczanski ( catcher for the Pirates back in the 50s ) than JPII and built to make it into the Guinness Book - sounds like the sculptor has a real sense of humor!

  • Well, it isn't the worst statue of him I have seen.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir

Actually I was think of that silly statue that looks like a phone booth.

  • I wonder if smaller duplicates will be made, and perhaps, one of them allowed to sit on top of a Holy Tabernacle, just as JP2 allowed a statue of Buddha to sit on top of a Holy Tabernacle at Assis?

  • The caption reads, "A woman looks at the giant statue of late Pope John
Paul II being readied for unveiling this weekend, in Czestochowa, Poland,
    Tuesday, April 9, 2013. The 13.8-meter (45.3-foot) white fiberglass figure... "

But looking at it, it struck me curiously that not only is the woman looking at
the statue of JPII, but it appears JPII is also looking at the woman!!

If I had been the photographer, I would have asked the woman to please
raise her arms too, as if gesturing an embrace.  That would be a keeper!

You've got to be careful handing out these ideas like dog treats.

They might be watching you!  Then they can say it was your idea!!!

  • Oh Brother. Those people are nuts. I suppose they have nothing better to do in Poland than erect statues of Polish Popes. Lol.

If they make small ones, they maybe could come out with one that has a
JPII face and the rest like a Buddha!  -- Your comments welcome.

Or, make a small copy of this fiberglass JPII, with the arms out and the big
grin, only make it of shiny brass and with a face like the Buddha!  That ought
to look pretty appealing (to some) on top of a tabernacle!

And how can you ever get more "ecuмenical" all told, than that???!!!   (*rim shot*)

It's even got a cross-shape to it.  Did you notice that???   (another *rim shot*)
    (see image in above posts)

Reading this made me feel sadder than viewing the monstrous tribute to novus ordo papalotry.
Please may I ask where in S. America this horror took place?

So much reparation, so little time.

  • To me, it looks more like he's throwing his arms up in the air with a shrug (like he just don't care!) than he's ready for a hug.
"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).
