    • It is St. Cecilia's feastday today.   How certain she was regarding the matter of Baptism when preserving her virginity she would not permit her chaste spouse to see her Guardian Angel unless he were first baptised, and sent him to Pope Urban.

    • In the case of St Cecilia and the other virgin martyrs of that time their preservation of their virginity and the promise of chastity was a precursor of the religious life. In the early days of the Church religious life was not established and so those girls who felt a call to a life of chastity had to make their promise in private.
