  • I understand this might be a bit early for this thread, but might as well start it now. Please state your views on this Pope. Is he more acceptable than the past few Popes? Is he an anti-pope?

Also keep in mind that your answer may evolve over time to something completely different since this is only his first day as Pope.

The SSPX has never officially held this position. There seems not to be any reason to do with with the new pope, Francis.

  • Bergoglio was ordained in the new rite.

ABL's society commonly conditionally ordained NO priests who wished to cross over.

Will +Fellay offer a conditional ordination to Bergoglio?   :laugh1:
"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

It seems you meant to say:

It looks to me as though the sedes are going to have a field-day with this
election.  Pope Francis is far more an ecuмaniac than even JPII was.  And he
has no knowledge of multiple languages as JPII had, so it seems to be a
huge "step down" on more than one level.

I am afraid this is a very sad day in the history of the Church, and today is
    the day AFTER his election.

I know a nominal Catholic whose only concern was how well the white cassock fit
him when he "presented himself," waving his hand in a literal figure-8 motion,
which seemed to show he was bewildered and confused by the whole spectacle
of the crowd in Bernini Square.  Not a good sign.

And this nominal Catholic had much to say about "his glasses have got to GO! He
needs a good pair of Prada glasses like Pope Benedict had!"

It seems to me that he may already be..

..looking at the world -- through PRAVDA GLASSES.

How mere appearances can be so important is beyond me.  I guess some
people are just so superficial.  Please pass the barf bag.

Look at his record - what are we in for? He is an AVOWED ENEMY of Tradition.

What more do we need to know?

    Kyrie eleison.

Sorry, you're too late this time.  Bergoglio has already been conditionally
consecrated by a lineup of Protestant ministers (from 4 years ago):

Argentine Cardinal kneels to receive Protestant 'Blessing'

On June 19, 2006, the Third Fraternal Encounter of the Renewed Communion of Evangelicals and Catholics was held in Luna Park stadium in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Present were the Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, and the Preacher of the Pontifical Household, Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa.

The highlight of the meeting was when the Argentine Cardinal fell to his knees to be blessed by the some twenty Protestant pastors present.

The photo above registers this moment. One can distinguish Protestant pastor Carlos Mraida with his hand over Begoglio's head; to Mraida's left in the photo is pastor Norberto Saracco of the Pentecostal Church of Argentina. The bearded monk with his back to the camera is Fr. Cantalamessa wearing the Capuchin habit.

This encounter was born from a meeting at the Pontifical Gregorian Universtity in Rome, where the Catholic leader of the Movement of Charismatical Renewal met Protestants, who invited him to preach in their temples. The initiative spread and has generated gatherings like this one in Buenos Aires.

Well, unless he says, "Look, folks, you are not what we are.  You are schismatics.  Submit completely or go away.  Your choice.  Make it now."

That might do it.  However, I expect Bishop Fellay would find some way to Jacquie to this and still claim to have changed nothing.

      :roll-laugh1:

That would require a backbone and a clarity of theological vision I doubt that Bishop Fellay has. Still, I would pay to see that!
