  • Has anyone heard we will be issued church envelopes at our SSPX Chapels?
I heard it from a reliable source, IMHO, and wondered if anyone has any further info. Seems timely, considering the recent scuttle about possibly signing something about regularization with Rome.

  • I am not an SSPX'er.  Is there something significant about being issued envelopes that I am missing?
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir

  • We just give cash donations during the collections. Why envelopes now after so many years? I only wonder if it is part of the seemingly (not yet proven or proclaimed) preamble "signing" that would be part of the "agreement" regarding The Vatican's 'take' --- or, some other reason, if anyone has any information.

  • That's odd.  For several years now We've had SSPX envelopes.  I'm looking at one now.  It says  PRIESTLY SOCIETY OF ST. PIUS X  (British Columbia)   followed by amount, name,  date, and address.  They use this envelope for all the parishes in B.C..  Maybe you're at a smaller parish, or even a new parish Clelia?

I've been with the SSPX for almost 20 years and we have always had envelopes.
This also enables them to give us a tax receipt at the end of the year.

I really doubt that anyone will ever stop you from tossing cash in a church collection basket.  :smirk:

An envelope system makes life a little easier on the bookkeepers and makes cash contributions allowable as IRS deductions. It's recommended in the USA SSPX accounting policies (and has been for awhile), but not every chapel follows the recommendation.

My parish has been there for well over 21 years, although I do not know how much longer than that.

Really? We have never had envelopes, and I "assumed" (I am ASHAMED to admit that in this case!) This was a general notice to all chapels/parishes.

Well, I guess that ends this discussion!  :smirk: Sorry if I was inferring that it had to do with the preamble situation.

    Thank you and never mind...

Yes, I too have attended Society chapels for years, and have always had envelopes. They provide a get a tally at the end of year, for donations made.

  • The pastor of the SSPX Chapel I attend has long discouraged the use of envelopes, unless the donator wants a 'tax statement' at the end of the year.  He has even said, it makes no sense to put cash in an envelope without a name on it- makes extra work for the counters.  My guess is like what was said years ago by an SSPX authority, who's name I will not mention: "Cash is so easy to use and can't be tracked"  He could take a handful out and use it how he saw fit. (mostly for someone in needs benefit)

Yes, this would make sense too.  I guess maybe that's why they give out envelopes at my chapel, maybe only for those who ask for them, a way to keep track for the year end purposes.  Cash is good too, the Good Lord knows how much need there is : )
