• I have been looking into health sharing options over the last two years.  We have some threads here with good info on them.  At the end of the day, what works for one family may not work for another.  Each of the programs have their advantages/disadvantages.

I heard this one advertised on Catholic radio.  It is actually a Catholic health sharing ministry.  Their prices and "annual share amount" is the best I've seen.  Their is no "per incident" dollar value before sharing kicks in.

Anyway, feel free to check it out.  I'm pretty sure I will be getting this one for my wife and baby after she is born.

  • Also, I'm not promoting for them.  I just took a long time looking into the various options, and this one seems to be the best one for ME and MY FAMILY.  Other programs might work much better for other families in a different situation.

  • Thanks much!  It was kind of you to post this.  I will definitely keep it for my files and look more closely into.  (I did already go to the website and it looks like it definitely has some good pluses.)

  • I heard about this program a couple of weeks ago (probably an online ad?). I didn't look at it extensively because we're already members of a different one, but I did look around their website and saw one aspect that I'd not seen in the other programs.

It's something they call HealthTrac. If they decide you have to join, it's an extra $80 per month, and, personally, I think that's a significant amount of money along with a significant burden for services that I know I could get free of charge in my local community if I needed them.

    Quote
HealthTrac is for Sharing Members of Solidarity HealthShare who qualify for our medical cost sharing program but have certain pre-existing health conditions that can be improved through lifestyle changes. HealthTrac is in place for Sharing Members to improve their health while reducing the risk of developing or exacerbating serious diseases.
HealthTrac is designed to help individuals with diagnoses such as diabetes, hypertension, cancer, heart disease, high cholesterol and obesity, as well as tobacco users who are willing to work towards a healthier life. Each HealthTrac participant is assigned a Health Coach to develop a personal plan for achieving goals related to their condition or diagnosis. Regular communication with the coach and tracking of progress is part of the program.
Our HealthTrac coaches help participants with:

You may contact your health coach as often as needed. However, participants are required to communicate with their health coach by phone at least once a month. Please review the Solidarity’s HealthTrac participant agreement for further details:

Electing to join as a Sharing Member via HealthTrac signifies a commitment to making lifestyle changes that benefit the body and mind while controlling or reversing a chronic disease. The HealthTrac fee is an additional $80 participant fee per month added to the Monthly Share Amount. Once goals are achieved, the $80 per month participant fee is removed from the Sharing Member’s Monthly Share Amount.

I agree.  In the case of my family, none of the conditions apply.  On the other hand, if you have one of the conditions, your healthcare costs are likely to be higher, so this doesn't burden everyone that doesn't have a condition that can be changed through lifestyle changes.
What I did like is that while yes, some others don't have this HealthTrac, they will have 500+ dollar per incident charge, so you pay for everything nearly every time you go to the doctor, unless you go over your per incident amount.

After researching several of them, I don't think there is one that is THE BEST for everyone.  Each family may have completely different needs.  For my family, this one will work well.  I have full coverage insurance through my work for me only.  If I cover my wife, it is $500, for a baby, it is $810 dollars.  That is for a HSA plan that has a $4,000 deductible and a $6,000 max out of pocket.  So, I would be paying 810 dollars a month, and then pay 4k before it covers anything, and would be 6k (again on top of the 4k during years we have a baby, because we'd obviously hit the max out of pocket those years).  So under their plan, I can cover my wife and baby for $224 a month, and after $1,000 (deductible and max out of pocket in this case) everything is covered.  I have regular insurance right now for my wife, and as a result, I will be paying a very large max out of pocket amount for the baby.  After the baby is born, I will put them both on this Solidarity program.  It seems like it will be much more cost effective for me.
