  • There is nothing new under the sun. But on Wednesday I found something that was new to me. An egg coddler. We were on Metropolitan Avenue and I went in to the antique store named Frieda's. I asked if there was anything on sale and she pointed me to two book cases full of antiques. One on the left and one on the right. On the left what stuck out at me was a blue Chinese round ceramic dish with a lid which I thought would be good to store incense in. Blue, blue, craft blue. On the left was this ceramic dish with a metal lid that screwed on and off. I had no idea what it was but I thought the birds on it were beautiful. It came with instructions that told you how to prepare eggs. It was 15 dollars so I bought it and took it home.

At home I washed it off with warm soapy water and read the instructions:

First, lightly butter the inside of the dish. Then crack the eggs and put them in the dish (I put in two). Then add butter over the eggs and salt and pepper to taste. Then put the dish in the boiling water to cover (I found it easier to put the dish in cold water before boiling it so you would have just the right amount of water). Then boil for ten minutes. After ten minutes take the dish out of the boiling water by the ring (I used the handle of a wooden spoon to lift it). Then as you unscrew the lid, grasp the entire lid (I used an oven mitt). Check the eggs and if they are not done cooking, put them back in the boiling water for a few minutes. After ten minutes my eggs were not done cooking so I put them in the water for three more minutes for a total of thirteen minutes cooking time. After they finished cooking, I lossened the eggs with a butter knife and they slid out of the coddler and on to my plate. I ate them with buttered toast.

They came out well, similar to poached eggs, only better, as I do not know how to poach an egg well without them falling part and this was, the coddler prevents the eggs from falling apart. Now I know how to make coddled eggs. You can learn something new every day.

  • …store incense…
Ha, ha, ha. I do believe we can all translate what that means.

    What's up?
I am focusing more on the glories of creation and hope and joy and happiness instead of Church politics. I am trying to be like a child. Unlike poche, I do not defend the Novus Ordo Missae, I think it is bad (I don't know how bad). However I think it is valid sometimes (how often I do not know). I attend the Tridentine Mass or the Eastern Rites exclusively, unless I have to go to a funeral or a wedding or if I have to go with family. I attend SSPX Masses regularly but I would attend a resistance Mass if it were available and I love and respect Bishop Williamson. I am not sure about sedevacantist Masses, I used to think I would, but I never have, and lately I am feeling that Francis really is the Pope. I would attend an Ecclesia Dei Mass if I had no other option and have on occasion. That is new for me, I used to stay home. I attended benediction at my local parish tonight and I thought that Our Lord was there and that the other faithful around me, who were mostly ignorant pious Spanish people, were faithful Catholics. As I was saying, I prayed the prayer of Bishop Zendejas: "Lord, if you are present on the altar here, (at a Novus Ordo parish) I adore you!"
You have to give poche credit: he has over six thousand posts here and he is constantly mocked and derided more than any other member and I have never heard him ever return those slings and arrows with arrows of his own. Not once, and i have mocked him myself. Some might think that he doesn't read the responses, but I believe he reads every single one and offers up our mockery of him to the Lord. He always turns the other cheek like Our Lord taught us to. So we can learn from poche. Matthew wouldn't allow him here if he were wicked. When truly wicked people enter under our roof at Cathinfo, Matthew is quick to ban them.

I am noticing now that in every post I make I make an error in every post I make and it makes me laugh.

  • I have the same one with the birds... I have picked up a few over the years, different sizes and artwork. I keep planning to use them for Easter breakfast for my family. My experiments haven't turned out so well... hard to handle the hot little things to check if the eggs are at the right stage. I think they are somethings Europeans have more regular practice with. Tips would be appreciated.

I also think the style of your posts has changed dramatically of late. Maybe you're just thinking more deeply and waxing poetic. I've enjoyed some of them.

(I agree about Poche, too. He's always gentle and charitable regardless of the insults heaped upon him.)

I know my posts have changed drastically. I can explain why. I believe I was spiritually ill for a while and fell into mortal sin and because of this I became very sick and I went to the hospital and I felt like I almost died and I was there three weeks and I felt like I was in hell which I believe was my penance. And then after three weeks I got well and made a good confession. And now I feel like I am a new person, like I was born again, not in the fake protestant way which is merely wishful thinking, but in the true way by the grace of the sacraments and the Blood of Christ. After I was able to go to Church again I received Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament and it was a very happy experience. I have received Communion three times since and I think I feel the grace of the good God. I may have gone to confession and Communion in the hospital but I do not remember. My father told me the chaplain who visited me gave me an exorcism (probably minor, as major exorcisms require a lot of red tape, but my father did not say). He gave me a Bible in Spanish and told me to pray two Psalms. But during my stay someone stole my Bible. In the hospital people were always coming into my room and stealing things, especially holy things, as there are devils there who want to take away all your sacramentals so that you go to hell. Like wicked nurses who take brown scapulars off the bodies of the dying in the hopes that they will go to hell.

I am trying to live in faerie land, like Tolkien, or be like a child like Mozart in Amadeus. And I am trying to learn how to write poetry and sing songs and play the guitar and whistle like the birds whistle. And I want to learn Latin and French and Spanish and other languages. Whistling is one of my talents. And I try to keep watch over the neighborhood for an hour in the evenings. I light a candle and sit on my porch and I watch the people walk by, often with their dogs. And when a good person walks by I let them pass and when a bad person walks by I send them away. I do not know how to explain it except to say that one ought to read Le Petit Prince.

I go on walks and look at babies. I try to help out anyway I can. I pray and I work for my family. I try to do what my parents tell me to do. Obedience is an important virtue. I am working on it. And silence. It is important to never talk unless you are spoken to first, unless you are in a position of authority. Keep silent. Speak with your heart and with your body, not with your lips. I pray to Gemma to teach me how to shut up and when I speak I get angry at her and show her signs of my displeasure. It is hard for me to keep quiet because I always want to speak to myself out loud, in distress or in joy.

So I am very happy. I love nature and I am trying to have joy. The real Joy of the God who brings joy to our youth. I may seem giddy, but I am doing very well and am happy.

But I feel like the devil is everywhere but the good God is always a step ahead of him. I think that if we are good Christians the Holy Ghost should dwell inside of our souls. So we should be immaculate. But the seed of the devil is also inside of us and the devil fights with the Holy Ghost so we make mistakes. Sometimes I think that all imperfections are because of the devil, and I think if we say the wrong word or make a spelling error, or forget the lyrics of a song, it is because the devil is tempting us or playing tricks on us. But this must be false because we are not afflicted by the devil alone, but also the world and the flesh. I don't know. But I am well, I have been asked a number of times if I am on drugs or if I am ill, but I feel better than I have as long as I can remember so do not worry. But like I said I am trying to help turn our lives and the world into a faerie tale with a happy ending in heaven.

  • I have always thought you were a good poster, Matto, but of late
I have enjoyed reading your posts because, although seeming a bit strange, they are full of wisdom.

God bless you, and I will pray you remain feeling well.

By the way, that is a great device and a great way to cook eggs. I love the idea of two lashings of butter. Yum!

Nadir, I think you would make a good editor. You are always helping people use the right words and how to use correct grammar. You look over our posts and let us know when we make errors as we are always making spelling and gramatical errors. I like to write and Seraphina told me I should find an editor and a publisher for my children's prayer book. I like writing but have no idea if any of my writing is good enough to be published. I have a reader; a man who posts on Suscipe Domine as Pon de Replay, and lurks here as Roberto, but I do not have an editor or a publisher. I like writing all kinds of things.
But most of all I like writing down prayers. I use a pencil, and a red, blue, and black pen. I try to write for children and for grown ups. I  prefer writing for children as Our Lord said that to enter under his roof one has to become like a little Child . . .. who brings Joy to our youth.

What is the best children's book? To me the best modern children's book is Le Petit Prince, but I love all fairy tales, even modern ones like The Lion King.

It is a graciously written and very touching story, Matto, but in light of the fact that it concludes with the ѕυιcιdє of the little prince, perhaps you ought to reconsider whether it is truly suitable for children.

I have done some editing, but only for my husband's four books.

I haven't written on my "Spelling Challenge" thread for quite a while, passing over plenty of opportunities.

I still haven't had a chance to look at your prayer book, as we have been on the road for 5 days, but now, thank God, we are home.

Regarding children's books, the one book that comes to mind, which I used to read to my children when they were tucked up in bed, is The Secret Garden". We thoroughly enjoyed that.

They especially liked that I used to read using a heavy Mancunian accent.

Have you read The Practice of the Presence of God, by Brother Lawrence? It is a small book, but so full of wisdom.

Another great book is The Chronicles of Narnia. Through the use of theological fantasy, Professor C. S. Lewis helps children and adults acquire virtue and possibly even come to Christ Who is portrayed as the Lion Aslan in the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.
    Lord have mercy.
