  • Soooooo....

...who's opened up their first paystub for 2013?  How do you like that?  Something missing?

How do you like the practice of charity imposed on you by the State?

  • Laramie,
You have a very zippy payroll department.

Social Security tax returned to the 2010 rate of 6.2% -- up from the 4.2% of the past two years.

  • a 30%+ decrease for me, no exaggeration.  Still trying to calculate the damage.  This is way worse than anticipated.

    How is that possible??

The biggest hit would be to those making 113,500.00 per year. *Those people* will see an additional hit of just over a hundred bucks a month (and 113K is pretty friggin good money!)

For someone making, say, 50K/year, they'll see a hit of about almost 50 bucks a month.

I cannot see how you would see a 30+% reduction in net income from this.

If you made 50K/year you'd get hit with 50 more dollars per month, but you make, what, 4 grand a month?

If you get hit the hardest you make 113K/yr which is 10K per month, and 100 dollars is not a third of the after tax net on 10 grand a month.

How can what you're saying be possible.

There's obviously something else at play in P.E.D.'s paycheck than a 2% tax increase.

BTW, Iuv, that was a lot of numbers just to say that 2% =/= 30%

  • MD, I figured they already knew 2 ≠ 30, so I wanted to walk through it to figure it out.

I often assume a person knows what they're talking about first, and take it from there. I assume they knew their pay/hours and clearly something was amiss.

    Dunno.

As for the excessive detail, it's just how my mind works. :/

$50 a month?  Wrong.  So totally wrong.  That's all I'll say.

  • No, I don't earn anywhere near the high dollar amount noted.  Quite modest.  And my paycheck was 30% less.
Like I said, I'm trying to calculate how this occurred, hoping it's egregious error on the part of our  payroll dept.  Others I worked with are reporting same percentage.  I can see the increase is due, in part, to a healthcare cost increase, due to Obamacare mandates, causing ins companies to raise costs, with the end result we all have to opt for a single payer system b/c we can't afford private.
Nevertheless, our taxes fund pure evil, and the more they take, the more evil is perpetuated.

Yea right, I can't even take a 50 dollar hit a month right now myself.....This commie bastard in the WH has got to go.

I suspect this is just the beginning, it's going to get a lot worse.

  • On a related note, grocery prices here have increased a lot since the 1st. Our Epiphany dinner went from the the anticipated roast beef to a small store-brand ham very suddenly.  Easter may be a can of Spam.

We too have been brutalized financially. Of course, I have yet to see my 2013 pay, since we're paid every 2 weeks I won't see what everyone else is referring to for another week.

But I've noticed the grocery thing for sure. Flour has been on a steady climb the last 12 months, eggs were higher when I bought today, and milk was noticeably more also? :(
