  • Activity, while never completely absent, is more or less feast-or-famine around here. But feast more often than famine.

Sometimes things are slow until something "happens" and something happening might be a simple as someone starting a good thread.

Not everyone is good at thinking up a good thread out of thin air -- maybe 10% of the members are the type to do so. BUT I'd say 80% (or more) are capable of creating a good thread if they wanted to.

  • Hobbledehoy is having problems.  Gladius is having some sort of problem though he hasn't expressed it that way.  Sedetrad is having a problem.  Caminus barely posts anymore.  Tele rarely posts anymore.  Spiritus Sanctus appears to have really left, etc.  It's like a black cloud of depression and gloom is floating over the trad Catholic world.

I sometimes wonder if this site is kept going by a mere handful of people and a bunch of variations of this Pope Augustine guy.  I feel too often that I'm talking to a troll or someone playing a joke.  Matthew leaves these people on to stimulate conversation, I think, but it gets wearisome.  I'm not blaming Matthew, just the lack of serious Catholics who want to post.
Readers: Please IGNORE all my postings here. I was a recent convert and fell into errors, even heresy for which hopefully my ignorance excuses. These include rejecting the "rhythm method," rejecting the idea of "implicit faith," and being brieflfy quasi-Jansenist. I also posted occasions of sins and links to occasions of sin, not understanding the concept much at the time, so do not follow my links.

  • I notice that almost everyone you listed is a single guy with LOTS of time to post on CathInfo.

There plenty of married people who don't have nearly as much time to post -- they post occasionally.

Actually, as I type this there are 13 members online (not counting the 35 lurkers). So it's just some of the "long standing members" who might be away at the moment.

Another thing, Raoul -- you are more one-of-a-kind than you think. Not just in a "God made you special" sense either.

How many people can post like you, Gladius, or myself? Not many. Out of 1500 people, approximately 3 :)

Why do I single those 3 people out? From what I can tell, they are well-educated (at least in matters of the Faith), interested in helping spread the truth, etc. but they *also* have a way with words and are good teachers. (Glory be to God). There are plenty of intellectuals, but to be a good teacher is a different, unrelated skill.

I'm sure we can find examples of priests as well. They all learn the same material (assuming they went to the same seminary) but some of them give excellent, riveting sermons and others don't. The ones who don't aren't "bad" -- they just don't have the same gifts.

At the seminary I attended, Bishop Williamson stood out as the best educator. He made it look easy. He was able to get knowledge out of his head and into our heads -- that's the skill of teaching.

  • I am something of an addict with forums like this if left to myself. I intentionally limit my internet time for thqt reason.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir

Absolutely to this. Also, I'd venture to say that many single trad men spend far too much time - more than is healthy - on the internet.

That would include me, but I am a construction worker (with a college degree: life is too funny sometimes...), and I have tutoring gigs on the side once in a while. I would like to post here more often, but circuмstances forbid that, as well as prudence (especially after what happened recently).

I would love to read more from fathers and mothers, since these Catholics seem to be the most level-headed. Having the care of a wife and children, and governing a household together with all its concomitant responsibilities and exigencies, tends to make a man more sane and connected with reality. Single folk can learn much from such posters, especially those who are called and seek to attain to Holy Matrimony.
Please ignore all that I have written regarding sedevacantism.
