  • Should women be subservient to their husbands?

If so, to what extent? How morally culpable are they?

    -or-

Should the relationship be equal in every way?

  • Weird question. Of course the husband is head of the wife. Wives are to obey their husbands. As Christ is head of the Church.
[8] But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach a gospel to you besides that which we have preached to you, let him be anathema. [9] As we said before, so now I say again: If any one preach to you a gospel, besides that which you have received, let him

I'm just trying to see what people on this website say. I agree with you.

  • "Equality" is liberalism. Women should most certainly be submissive to their husbands. This should not even be a question or discussion. How far gone our world is!

    Exactly.

It's pretty clear-cut, even in Scripture, but also according to the tradition of the Catholic Church.

  • It's my understanding that it would not include submitting to immoral requests.  In other words, I'm pretty sure most here would agree that a wife should not go to the NO if her husband told her to do so.

  • Church teaching is clear:

    Quote from: Catechism of Trent
A husband is also to keep all his family in order, to correct their morals, and see that they faithfully discharge their duties.   The wife should love to remain at home, unless compelled by necessity to go out; and she should never presume to leave home without her husband's consent.

  • Wait, so someone has down thumbed my response.  How about coming out of the shadows and explaining why?  Honestly, if a husband tells a wife to do anything immoral, she should still obey?  Or was this a reflection of not liking my description of the NO?

Someone sympathetic to novus ordo sensibilities down thumbed you.   :really-mad2:

I think you make a good point.  A wife should try to dissuade her husband from attending a place where such indifferentism is hinted at, if not openly encouraged.  However, if he insists, she should go and be by his side but bring a Traditional Catholic prayer book with her and pray from it the whole time.  Or, she should bring her Rosary and pray it during the service and not participate with the standing and sitting and clapping and shaking of hands but she should give her husband a big kiss during the "kiss of peace" roundabout.

However, refrain from going to communion.  It's likely to be invalid but it is definitely a sacrilege.

  • I think the reason this question is asked is because many Catholics here show themselves to show slight signs of feminism (not just women either).

Women should listen to their husbands obviously, as feminism comes from liberalism and Marxism, but let me also go one step further if I may.

The man is not required to respect or obey any woman (that includes mothers or grandmothers) if the woman is tainted with liberal or Marxian thought. For instance my grandmother is liberal and Trotskyist so I definitely am not required to show respect to her or have to obey her I might add, especially when she starts badmouthing me about women's rights and how I'm a Catholic reactionary, closet Muslim and nαzι.

This is a serious problem with having a marriage with mixed religions, not just the wife but their children too.

She should not attend the NO anymore than she should attend a protestant service at her husband's insistence.  It is a sacrilege or a mocking imitation.

This is what I was thinking.  If we believe that the NO is protestant/non-Catholic would we go to a Baptist service and bring along a traditional Catholic prayer book?

I also strongly discourage diocesan TLMs because either they are fake (invalid priest = no Mass) or celebrated by a priest who also participates in the sacrilegious NO.  I attended these for a long time myself so I am not criticizing anyone who is at this point in their journey to true Catholicism.  Just realize the facts already and find a traditional chapel with a valid priest.

  • 2Vermont and OHCA,

I certainly do agree with both of you.  My example was a worst case scenario.  In addition to going with him the novus ordo, the wife should ask if they could alternate - one week the novus ordo the next week the Catholic Mass.  The wife should try to refrain from a direct confrontation over the issue and pray daily and, with alternating the attendance, the husband will see the error of his ways IF he is a Catholic.
