I have to wonder what other poor judgment he exercises:

unless...you believe it was a setup.

The 'average Catholic' seems to be relieved the arrest wasn't for 'another type of crime'

He's the Archbishop of San Francisco but was arrested in San Diego. Hmmm Wonder what he was doing so far from home?

Attending a family dinner and was driving his mother home. He was stopped in an all-cars roadblock and had the absolute minimum BAC with which the police even bother, the equivalent of two glasses of wine.

I'm still looking but have yet to find a statutory prohibition against someone from another CA city visiting family members in the San Diego area. Or having dinner with said family members. Or, in premier wine country, actually drinking two glasses of wine.

Oh, and he is not yet installed as Abp., either.

A. It is a a very common nationwide practice, now.

B. San Diego has a particularly good police force and is super-proactive on drinking and driving as a matter of policy. They want drunks of the road.

C. San Diego also ratchets up DUI inspections before ALL major holidays and this can kick long before a hoiday since the area is a ouristt destination and folks come in from all over the globe.

D. San Diego is also not adverse to increasing its revenue stream. And, at from half a grand to several grand in fines, per head, for every DUI, well....
