  • Well, some Sedevacantist from New Jersey by the name of Donato called in to Catholic Answers.  Unfortunately, he just ranted and raved like a lunatic, and spit nails the entire time, making little sense and raising very few rational arguments, instead blindly spewing unsubstantiated propaganda talking points used by uninformed trads which were quickly dismantled by the hosts; he repeatedly talked over the program hosts who by constrast seemed quite rational and calm and charitable.  Stuff like this simply discredits the entire Traditional movement.  People really have to be careful NOT to call in like that as if they were representative of all Traditional Catholics, giving us all a bad name, and in fact most likely turning most of the listening audience AGAINST Traditional Catholicism.  That's why in normal times people needed to have permission from their Ordinary before trying to "speak for" and "represent" the Church in public.  Badly played, Donato.  Do we have a Donato here on CathInfo?

    Amen.
It's easy to see this turn off in any mainstream Catholic website commentary.   Whenever traditionalists are referenced, the overall sentiment is that we are mean.  We do not have a good reputation; that is, one of charity.

  • If you click on the Members link above, you can search the membership of Cathinfo.  There is no member named "Donato".  There is a "donatus" who joined in 2010, has made 4 posts, the last in 2013, but he was a rabid anti-sedevacantist.

I imagine he wouldn't use his real name as a screen name here; most people don't.

It was on the first hour of Catholic Answers Live Open Forum, which aired from 6-7PM Eastern yesterday evening May 5, 2015.  Looks like they have an audio archive, but they haven't posted yesterday's shows yet ... just up to May 4.

  • I love this question from April 28:

I am having a debate with a fundamental evangelical, and I am wondering if I am somehow robbing them of their invincible ignorance?

Well because they're modernists, indifferentists, heretics, worldly etc.

Or do you do it to "know your enemy"?

Both.  They're actually quite orthodox on 99% of all points related to Catholic doctrine.  Where they fall apart and where they ALL fall apart is on the question of EENS.  So, when they're not talking about EENS, I actually learn something.  But it's interesting to see how they insinuate their errors into certain aspects of things.

I didn't listen to that show.  I imagine that they would respond that one shouldn't worry about that in presenting the truth.  Why I found the QUESTION interesting is that it assumes "invincible ignorance" to be salvific and, as I have said, actually turns the Catholic truth into an OBSTACLE for salvation.  So marches on the new soteriology.

99%? What about false ecuмenism, the Mass, religious liberty, modesty, evolution, morals etc.? I would say a LOT less than 99%, maybe around 50.
