  • "In the United States the period from 1900 to 1960 can be considered a golden age of the priesthood, not merely in modern times but throughout all the Catholic centuries. While priests of that era certainly had their faults, by all measureable standards there was less ignorance,  less immorality, less neglect of duty, and less disobedience than at almost any time in the history of the Church. More positively, priests of that era were generally pious and zealous, and those who were not at least had to pretend to be"

(James Hitchcock, "He´s the Last One I Would Have Expected", San Francisco Faith, September 1999 : quoted in  Michael S. Rose "Goodbye, Good Men")

Doesn´t that just about say it all?!

I think the same would apply to Europe too, and the whole World!

  • Being over 60 years old, I have experience very pious priests
whom were ordained before 1967 in the traditional rite. I have
not have experienced  :incense:a post 1967 priest that appeared to me as pious. The church today has been reduced from a sacred
mystery to a town hall full of noisy people whom cannot agree
    on anything.

  • I think you could even say that the golden age of the priesthood in the world lasted a good long time from the Council of Trent, Philip Neri and Charles Borromeo to the Council of futility, error and banality (aka Vat II), Karl Rahner and Hans Küng!

  • You are correct, we need to go back to the 12 apostles to Vatican
    2. However 1900 to Vatican 2 and the aftermath is recent memory for most living today, and  very well docuмented in so many articles, books, and now blogs. I did not mentioned movies, and theater, because they mostly have been a bad influence.

  • Forgive me for not doing this in the first place. I should have
added the High Priest, Jesus Christ with the 12 Apostles.
