You are correct, we need to go back to the 12 apostles to Vatican
2. However 1900 to Vatican 2 and the aftermath is recent memory for most living today, and  very well docuмented in so many articles, books, and now blogs. I did not mentioned movies, and theater, because they mostly have been a bad influence.
