  • A so-called “conservative” (p)rotestant acquaintance was asked how an infant who died or a severely mentally handicapped person would be saved.  He used this adjective, they are “non-sentient image bearers - thus no one knows the mind of God”.  Has anyone heard of the term “non-sentient Image bearers”?  I was speechless and dumbfounded when I heard this.🤔.

  • From the Baltimore Catechism;

    Q. 632. Where will persons go who -- such as infants -- have not committed actual sin and who, through no
    fault of theirs, die without baptism?
    A. Persons, such as infants, who have not committed actual sin and who, through no fault of theirs, die without
    baptism, cannot enter heaven; but it is the common belief they will go to some place similar to Limbo, where they
    will be free from suffering, though deprived of the happiness of heaven.

    An infant or aseverely mentally handicapped person will be saved in the same way as any adult or infant, ie through the sacrament of Baptism.
    A non sentintient image bearer surely means a person made in God's image who lacks knowlege and understanding
    Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,
    Let it be what God has planned, His new Eden where You reign.

  • The term, "non sentient image bearer" is very disrespectful of the mentally handicapped. You would be surprised at what "unconscious" people can remember when they come to.
