What amazingly vague wording for such a specific inquiry!  "Get this?"  Get what?

You mean "get" in the sense of receiving a publication via subscription (lately, e.g.: CFN or the Remnant)?  Or "get" in the sense of the sudden dawning of understanding (e.g.: starting construction on a new SSPX USA seminary, or the appeal of personal computers depersonalized by The Cloud)?  I didn't notice this topic at all until late last night, but as posted, there was really no information to indicate that it was worth any attention from "anyone".

Alas, S.C. is among the zillions using the Internet who never learned that "anyone" who writes an original-posting for a message-board topic, intending it to be clicked-on & actually read (instead of writing just to vent) should write each 'Topic Title' like a newspaper headline.  When a 'Topic Title' isn't interesting enough on its own merits, many potential readers won't ever click on it.

Had he used something specific like this:
"Anyone else get CathInfo Web-site errors?"
Then he might've attracted more productive attention, and thus produced more than the 13 replies to date.  Maybe there'd be one that would provide a crucial clue to Matthew, one clue that technical support at his his hosting-provider could apply to solve the technical problems we've experienced recently.

    It doesn't matter.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

  • I wondered if CI might be targeted by Krah and his cronies, or other members of the ѕуηαgσgυє; Menzingen; or maybe the Vatican Newchurchers have employed some hackers.  :detective:

Well, if the Jews or Menzingen had a list of their most-hated websites, I'd imagine that CatholicInfo would be #1 on their list. This site has been hated by liberals even before the crisis in the SSPX.

There is no secret that when enough computers are run by a network of
people who are deliberately coordinating their website "hits" to harm a
particular website, that they can do so.  There are software programs that
are designed to accomplish just that.  But I don't think you can buy them
on the shelf at Fry's or Best Buy or Staples.

You need to know someone who is "good" at HACKING and they can
get it for you - like it's contraband or something.

So it's perfectly believable that the Menzingen-denizens would be able to
    pull this off regarding CI.

Every post I write now, I have to SELECT ALL, COPY, and PASTE it into a
NotePad blank page and save it before I hit REPLY because about 3 or 4
out of ten are being LOST when the response page says CATHINFO IS
    OFFLINE, or whatever.

    So you are not alone.

  • My CPU was running at 100% so long as the dialog box was open for
that previous post.  Then as soon as I hit Reply and it was posted, my
CPU went to 2 or 3%.

Now, the moment I opened this dialog box to write this post, my CPU
again went to 100%, and has been hovering there between 97% and
100 all the while I've been typing this.

It's still up there.  I've got Windows Task Manager running to monitor the
monitor, so to speak.  I'll send this, then see if my CPU usage drops again.

  • As a matter of fact, yes, it did.  My CPU dropped immediately after I posted
above.  It went down to 30%, but then rebounded again up to 80 and above,
and after a few seconds returned to 96% and higher.

So I tried leaving this thread.  I went back to the Index page, and my CPU
fell to below 10%.  Meanwhile Page File Use is around 60% which is stupid
high, but I'm not sure what to do about that.

While I've been typing this message, my CPU usage has been around 20-40%
which isn't bad, but it really ought to be lower.

I'm thinking that this high CPU use might have something to do with a script
on this thread, which usually means an ad.

There might be some malicious scripts showing up as advertisers on CI.
I wonder if the Menzingen-denizens are trying to affect CI by means of
the ads displayed here?  That would be kind of ironic, no?  PAYING CI
effectively, to have the opportunity of harming CI?

  • You're totally off, Neil.

We're talking about CPU usage on the server, not the client (your computer).

If reading CathInfo is straining your CPU, you really need to upgrade your 486 (a computer from around 1992).

  • Site has crashed several times over last week or so, usually while I'm emailing or trying to post. Sometimes my post simply vanishes although I thought I'd saved it.  Three times I went to a link and ended up at an unrelated site--ads mostly, and was unble to get back on.  I know nothing about computers, but just thought I'd mention it.

Thanks, Matthew.  I don't have a 486.  I probably have some kind of malware
going on.  It's quite erratic.  But I was watching the General Discussion
Index page, refreshing it on another tab, and I never saw my posts listed
there, only RomanCatholic1953's posts.  Then all of a sudden, yours was
    listed.

Do you have an explanation for that?  It couldn't have anything to do with
my computer because it just displays the Index page that CI delivers.

So why was RomanCathlolic1953's, then your post the only ones visible on
the Index page (under "Last Post")?  Now it has Frances.

Okay, I checked now and this one showed up.  But the other two above
    did not.  I wonder why??

Having the site disappear without warning can be pretty nerve-racking.  Just this
morning I spent about an hour putting one post together with several charts,
links, data double-checks just to be sure.  Then I didn't save a copy of the
dialog window (the one I'm typing in now) and clicked on Preview one more
time to see how it will look, and I got a blank page saying that CathInfo
has become unavailable.  I tried to go "BACK" but there was nothing to go
back to.  It was all gone.  All that work for nothing.  I suspect most users would
just give up then, and stop trying to post, and go to a website where you can
actually post your message and/or get helpful comments from the owner
instead of derisive insults.  But not me!  Noooooooooo!  I'm just a GFP.

It seems that Matthew disagrees with your dismissive assertion, which conspicuously lacks any explanation.

I confess that's only my deduction.  But within what I recall as being less than an hour, the 'Topic Title' spontaneously changed to a much more specific one, which combined its original wording with my recommended wording.  And Matthew seems to be more logical than the average message-board owner-moderator.  I'm unaware of anyone other than him who can change the 'Topic Title' here after the 'starter' posting is frozen.

CathInfo has notified Matthew that an error occurred -- he will work on it as soon as possible.

Are there any other forum members are receiving this message when attempting to access CathInfo?

It's been 2 days of unavailability for me - I was finally able to access here via a search return that brought me to this thread.  I was already logged in from a few days ago, so I believe that's why I can construct this message.  If I try to return to the home page, or any other actions, I get the error message above.

  • It depends on which member's post I am reading as to how many errors I perceive. Some are worse than others.
