So, if supernatural powers are part of our genetic code then what do you fear? Or are you just too amazed that God made us ceatures also of 'magic'...not just flesh and soul?
This is NOT new age crap either. OMG do some research and study modern sciences and Quantum physics. The Church Fathers sure do not know everything nor does science. Truth can be found in the merging of both systems....
The Catholic Faith stands alone, Uriel. It has no need of science in order to express the Truth. Her teachings were true five hundred years ago, a thousand years ago, will be true tomorrow and a million years from now.
When scientific inquiry is done properly, it corroborates the teachings of the Church. One example is the Genesis account of an original human pair, Adam and Eve. Scientists have now "discovered" that yes, indeed, all living humans are descended from one male and one female. Another example would be the historical fact of the rule of Pontius Pilate. "Historians" since the early 1800's had denied that Pilate even existed, until a diver discovered a two-thousand year old Roman column off the Israeli coast with his name inscribed on it. There are many other examples too numerous to mention.
When trying to decide between two competing viewpoints, the Church's and that of "science," our default position is always to side with the Church. Why? Because the Church's knowledge comes through revelation from God Himself. Scientific knowledge, which proceeds from fallible human beings, cannot match the Word of God as revealed to Our Church Fathers and Saints.
Regarding "magic:" this is a practice that has been clearly condemned by the Church and Its Holy Scripture, both in the Old Testament and in the New. Again, why? Because magic is an attempt to thwart God's Will, to make things happen in a way pleasing to us and not God. A Christian has no need of spells and powers: he has only to seek the Will of God and try to obey It. If things don't work out the way he wants, then he says, "So be it," and rolls with the punches. Magic is an attempt to subvert all this and achieve an outcome which may be displeasing to God. When magic is apparently successful, it is only because a demonic hand is involved.
Our goal is not to become wise with the wisdom of this world, but to be wise in the eyes of God. God wants us to be simple, like little children, not scheming and plotting and using magical powers to get what we want, or trying to make ourselves more than what we really are.
